Lead EPC Project Manager

Business Unit:  Strategic Infrastructure
Requisition Number:  9448

About the role

Power the future of Britain’s energy network

The way we power our lives is changing.

As the UK accelerates the shift to clean, homegrown energy, our electricity network must evolve at pace. At National Grid, we’re leading that transformation – delivering major infrastructure that will strengthen connections, improve resilience, and secure reliable energy for generations to come.

We’re progressing plans to upgrade the network between Carlisle and Newcastle, a landmark project connecting the North West and North East. To help deliver it, we’re looking for a Lead EPC Project Manager to take ownership of complex, high-value infrastructure projects at the heart of this transformation.

As a Lead EPC Project Manager, you’ll lead projects end-to-end – from development and investment approval through to construction and handover – driving delivery across some of the UK’s most critical energy infrastructure.

This is a hybrid role, combining home and on-site working. You’ll travel to our Birmingham project office around twice a month, alongside site visits as required. Ideally, you’ll be based in the Midlands or North of England.

What you'll do

  • Lead the development, sanction and delivery of major EPC projects in line with the Network Development Process
  • Set the standard for health, safety and environmental performance, ensuring full compliance with CDM and SHES requirements
  • Manage stakeholders, regulators and customers across the full project lifecycle
  • Own risk, governance and delivery performance, ensuring issues are identified early and effectively managed
  • Control and optimise significant CapEx investment, using value engineering to balance cost, scope and quality
  • Provide clear, accurate project reporting, including financial forecasting, milestones and risk data
  • Lead and develop high-performing teams, building capability and resilience across the programme

About you

You’re a confident and credible project leader with experience delivering large-scale infrastructure in complex, regulated environments.

You’ll bring:

  • Strong EPC delivery experience across time, cost, quality and safety
  • Technical understanding of electricity transmission or complex infrastructure (desirable)
  • Proven stakeholder management and influencing skills at all levels
  • Experience working under CDM regulations and leading safe site delivery
  • Strong commercial and contract management experience (ideally NEC)
  • A collaborative leadership style with a passion for developing others

What you'll get

  • A competitive salary between £61,000 - £70,000 – dependent on capability.
  • Established market supplement of £4,500 per annum (paid monthly).
  • An annual performance bonus.
  • 26 days annual leave (plus bank holidays).
  • The option to buy additional or sell holiday days.
  • Generous contributory pension scheme - we will double-match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
  • Financial support to help cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions, course fees, books, exam fees and time off for study leave - so long as it's relevant to your role.
  • Access to flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
  • Family care benefits including a back-up care service for when your usual care arrangements fall through (six paid days each year as standard with the option to purchase further days).
  • Access to apps that support health, fitness and wellbeing.
