National Grid is hiring a Lead Asset Lifecycle Engineer - Cyber & Control - Variable Base office location - Hybrid working.
(National Security Vetting is required for this position - therefore at least 5 years resedency in the UK is required as a minimum.)
Job Purpose
This role offers the opportunity to join the Control and Cyber Lifecycle team and shape the future designs, standards and requirements for substation control and cyber security, assess supplier solutions as part of type registration and deliver optimised asset management tools and outcomes for our control systems including the management of cyber security.
What you'll do
- Provide detailed, expert technical and asset management knowledge in operational technology (OT) cyber, protection and control
- Create policies, procedures, technical specifications, work specifications, internal standards and technical guidance within area of expertise.
- Support the development of the Technical Roadmap within control and cyber security, whilst working with other specialists in the area and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
- Accountable for the leadership and development of virtual team working to take advantage of technology and methodology developments within protection and control
- Undertake Type Registration activities in line with relevant NGET Business Procedures
- Communicate difficult and standard issues associated within area of expertise in a clear and concise manner, both verbally and in writing
- Work closely with multiple National Grid stakeholders to communicate business requirements and the National Grid roadmap.
- Support initiatives for digital substation integration, focusing on protection and control systems.

About you
- Interpersonal, Supervisory or Management skills with the ability to work to challenging deadlines.
- Proven ability to develop working relationships quickly and effectively, and communicate clearly and diplomatically.
- Experience in communicating with and influencing internal and external stakeholders (e.g. regulators, managers).
- Proven ability to drive change to policies, procedures, standards, and specifications.
- Detailed understanding of cyber security best practices (IEC62351 / IEC62443).
- Strong understanding of asset management with a track record of developing processes that support business risk, cost, and performance-related decision making.
- Knowledge of network engineering, particularly Software Defined Networking.
- Understanding of protection and control systems for AC, FACTS, and HVDC transmission systems.
- Technical knowledge of the IEC 61850 standard (Station bus and Process bus).
- Familiarity with ET Policies, Procedures, Technical Specifications, Work Specifications, and Technical Guidance Notes in the area of expertise.
- Detailed understanding of National Grid’s regulatory regime.
- Excellent understanding of Type Registration Business Procedures.
- Experience in asset lifecycle management, including planning, risk assessment, and performance optimisation.
