National Grid is hiring a Lead Asset Lifecycle Engineer   - This role offers a variable base location.

Job Purpose

 

Electricity Transmission (ET) is navigating through an exciting time as we evolve to meet net-zero targets for 2050. Joining us as a Senior Asset Management Engineer you will support the development of all aspects of the lifecycle for electricity substation site supplies and critical back-up systems (Auxiliary Supplies) – Leading the specification, design, development, maintenance and/or lifetime management of LV switchgear and distribution systems in an industrial setting 

 

Focussing on site power supplies and critical back-up systems (Batteries and diesel generator sets), working at the heart of National Grid Electricity Transmission’s Asset Management and Engineering department in Asset Operations to meet the aspirations of Net Zero and the delivery of the Great Grid Upgrade. 

What you'll do

 

As a Senior Asset Management Engineer within the Asset Management - Substation Infrastructure team, you will lead the development of all aspects of Substation Auxiliary Supplies lifecycle. Ensuring we support the delivery of our RIIO T2/T3 regulatory period commitments and develop the Asset intervention and net zero strategies for RIIO T3/T4 and beyond to meet strategic and business objectives. 

 

  • Provide detailed, technical and asset management expertise in the area of Auxiliary Supplies 
  • Be involved across the whole lifecycle of auxiliary supplies (cradle to grave) 
  • Create and amend policies, procedures, technical specifications, work specifications, internal standards and technical guidance  
  • Lead the development of the Technical Strategy and identify the need for appropriate intervention strategies across our LV supply and auxiliary system portfolio and identify innovation opportunities 
  • Lead the development of virtual team working to take advantage of technology and methodology developments and innovation opportunities 
  • Define Type Registration strategy and undertake Type Registration activities in line with relevant procedures 
  • Support external engagement - Regulatory & Energy Industry Understanding 
  • Represent National Grid on appropriate national and international committees influencing the direction of national policy, standard or specifications 
  • Support and mentor other members of the team 

About you

 

You will be a self-starter who is eager to develop your business and technical skills, with the following qualifications and attributes: 

 

Must Haves: 

 

  • Extensive expertise in the specification, design, development, and lifetime management of LV switchboards, DC systems, back up generations and their associated equipment. 
  • A numerate degree or demonstrable experience in a relevant STEM area or industry. 
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of the principles of Asset Management. 
  • Membership or the ability to be a member of a relevant professional body. 
  • Ability to thrive when working to challenging deadlines. 
  • Able to communicate issues associated with your area of expertise in a clear and concise manner, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Strong strategic thinking skills, with experience and knowledge of the operational aspects of the work. 

 

Desirable: 

 

  • Institute of Asset Management “Principles of Asset Management” certificate. 
  • Chartered Status with a relevant professional body.
