Land Rights Project Manager - North

Business Unit:  Strategic Infrastructure
Requisition Number:  4660

About the role

Join us, and be at the heart of the UK’s Green Energy Revolution!

Imagine shaping the future of Britain’s energy landscape – where your expertise powers the journey to net zero by 2050. At National Grid, we’re not just building infrastructure; we’re building a cleaner, greener tomorrow. As one of the UK’s largest green investors, our landmark initiative, The Great Grid Upgrade, is transforming the nation’s energy future.

Now, we’re seeking a passionate Land Rights Project Manager to lead the charge and make history with us. You'll manage a team to deliver a portfolio of projects through development and into construction. Such projects have been promoted as Development Consent Orders and/or Compulsory Purchase Orders. Our projects include an electricity superhighway which will enable the transfer of power from Scotland to England (and vice versa) via a subsea cable, and proposals to upgrade the electricity network between the North West and North East of England.

You'll be flexible to travel to offices and project sites around the North of England, therefore a Northern base location is preferable.

What makes this role unmissable?

  • Lead with Purpose: Guide a talented, diverse team of land rights specialists, driving projects from vision to reality – securing land, negotiating settlements, and delivering for communities across the UK.
  • Shape National Impact: Your work will directly support the UK’s net zero ambitions, ensuring energy security and a sustainable future for millions.
  • Hybrid Freedom: Work from home, or from our vibrant offices in Warwick, London, Birmingham, or Leeds. We champion flexibility – full time, part time, or tailored arrangements to fit your life.
  • Inclusive Culture: We celebrate difference and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. If you’re excited by this role but don’t tick every box, we still want to hear from you!

About you

What we do isn’t just important – it’s essential. That’s why we look to recruit experts in their field. In this case, we’re looking for someone who has:

  • A track record of delivering land activities for major infrastructure projects from start to finish – think access, rights, and compensation negotiations.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (engineering, legal, consenting) to deliver complex projects.
  • Knowledge of the UK’s consenting regimes (Planning Act 2008, DCOs, CPOs, compensation code).
  • Leadership skills to inspire and develop a high-performing team.
  • A drive for technical excellence and a willingness to grow as an expert witness.
  • Relevant degree or professional qualification (MRICS, FRICS, FAAV) preferred – but passion and potential matter most.

What you'll get

  • A competitive salary between £65,000 - £75,000 – dependent on capability.
  • An annual performance bonus of up to 30% of your eligible earnings in the performance year.
  • Job requirement car.
  • 28 days annual leave plus eight statutory days.
  • The option to buy additional or sell holiday days.
  • A generous contributory pension scheme - we will double-match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
  • Financial support to help cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions, course fees, books, exam fees and time off for study leave - so long as it's relevant to your role.
  • Access to flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
  • Family care benefits including a back-up care service for when your usual care arrangements fall through (six paid days each year as standard with the option to purchase further days).
  • Access to apps that support health, fitness and wellbeing.
