About us

At National Grid, we keep people connected and society moving. But it’s so much more than that. National Grid supplies us with the environment to make it happen. As we generate momentum in the energy transition for all, we don’t plan on leaving any of our customers in the dark. So, join us as a Head of Delivery and find your superpower.

National Grid is hiring a Head of Delivery  - we offer a hybrid working policy - open to multiple locations accross UK.

Job Purpose

National Grid Electricity Transmission is delivering one of the UK’s most ambitious infrastructure programmes — a 500km, 2000MW HVDC cable connecting Peterhead in Scotland to Drax in North Yorkshire.

As Head of Project Delivery, you’ll take charge of this multi-billion-pound project, steering it through construction and delivery with precision, purpose, and passion.

What you'll do

This is a Senior Leadership opportunity to lead a nationally significant programme that will reshape how clean energy flows across the country. You’ll oversee the integration of complex FIDIC EPC contracts, manage a large multi-disciplinary team, and build strong relationships with joint venture partners, contractors, and regulators. Your leadership will be felt both on-site and at the strategic level, ensuring safety, quality, and performance are never compromised.

The EGL2 route includes major converter stations, with onshore infrastructure linking the subsea cable to the grid. It’s a project that not only supports the UK’s net zero ambitions but also strengthens energy resilience and unlocks economic growth across the east coast.

You’ll be leading a team of up to 10 direct reports and overseeing a wider delivery organisation of around 30 staff, plus several hundred contractors across multiple sites. The team includes deep marine technical expertise, reflecting the project’s dual focus on both onshore and offshore delivery. With construction now entering a critical phase, this role is integral to maintaining momentum, managing risk, and ensuring successful execution.

We’re looking for someone with real drive and enthusiasm — someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment and brings energy to every challenge. You’ll need a proven track record in delivering large-scale infrastructure or marine projects, strong relationship management skills, and the ability to influence and lead across diverse stakeholder groups.

A Project delivery background in Major Capital Programmes and commercial acumen are essential, including a relevant industry degree.

If you’re ready to take on a transformative challenge and help shape the future of energy, we’d love to hear from you.

What you'll get

A competitive salary – £80,000 - £100,000 DOE

As well as your base salary, you will receive a company car or allowance, a bonus of up to 40% of your salary for stretch performance, and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, a salary sacrifice technology scheme, support via the employee assistance line, and matched charity giving to name a few.
