The Head of Property Projects is responsible for the management of planning, project development, and the delivery of projects associated with the Operational Estate across England and Wales. This role involves leading high-performing development and delivery teams, working collaboratively, and strategically engaging with both internal and external stakeholders. The Head of Property Projects is accountable for maintaining a safe working environment, implementing financial controls, and ensuring the effective utilisation of resources in the development and delivery of all aspects of property projects, including Operational Estate enhancement, EV chargers, energy efficiency, and Fixed Wire testing within a substation environment.

 

This role is based out of one of our National Grid offices, and we’d hope to see you at least two days per week but you’re welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!

What You'll Do

  • Deliver all project and operational tasks, to time and budget – accountable for working with external suppliers in a timely delivery of the property projects programme.
  • Ensure compliance with Licence obligations placed on NGET – working closely with Regulation and Ofgem in ensuring the delivery and securing the future funding via reopener.
  • Accountable for working with contractors, internal stakeholders in a timely delivery of the Property projects programme.
  • Manage and mitigate emerging risks to the plan by working collaboratively with contractors, internal stakeholders (Corporate Property, Asset Management).
  • Work with Process Owners to drive improvements in the core processes and the planning process for Property projects delivery.
  • Responsible for a justified price control submission, reopener and annual reporting of the Property projects.
  • Accountable for building strategic relationships with internal and external customers and stakeholders on Property projects and for leading the agenda in our interactions with these organisations.

What You'll Have

  • Degree in Engineering (or equivalent) or equivalent experience.
  • A clear understanding of National Grid’s business objectives and its obligations to wider industry participants and regulatory authorities.
  • Strong understanding of the constraints and commercial drivers associated with management of the transmission system.
  • The ability to work under exceptional pressure, remaining calm and focused on the task in hand, maintaining effective communication and effectively lead the team.
  • Strong leadership capability with proven track record demonstrating consultative, facilitation and decision-making skills, and the ability to build positive relationships at a senior level both within National Grid and with key external stakeholders and customers.
  • A proven expert change management agent, able to construct and implement visions for the future across a multidisciplined team environment.
  • Able to manage a multi-million-pound national budget with the ability to drive down unit costs by continuous improvement. Able to make informed decisions and draw meaningful insights from financial data to both generate efficiencies and revenue.
