National Grid is hiring a Environmental & Sustainability Advisor - In this role you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home. You'll be flexible to regular travel throughout the North Region depending on the project.

Job Purpose

Join a dynamic team as an Environmental & Sustainability Advisor and make a real impact influencing strategy, shaping behaviours and supporting delivery teams to embed sustainable practices across the business and Infrastructure Delivery. You’ll be a visible, trusted advocate for environmental management, driving positive change and helping the organisation meet its environmental goals.

What You'll Do

  • Provide a single point of contact for advice and expertise on E&S documentation & process’.
  • Conduct regular site visits & conduct Environmental walks, work with the site teams to identify & resolve issues.
  • Working in the project development phase to ensure contract submissions meet the requirements & embed NG E&S goals at the start
  • Working with NGET SHEC team to drive NG objectives and initiatives into ID projects
  • Support site teams to ensure our contractors are delivering to our procedures and meeting their reporting responsibilities.
  • Develop best practice for environmental protection.
  • Develop appropriate communications to ensure the business is informed of changes to environmental legislation or procedures.
  • Support the development and sharing of good practice across all business units and Customer Connections supply chain
  • Support the development of strategies that reduce our environmental impact.
  • Promoting a positive safety culture through visible proactive, consistent and influential behaviours
  • Co-operate with others to ensure a co-ordinated approach to promote a clear understanding of each party’s duties, roles and responsibilities for Safety and Wellbeing
  • Report all incident, near misses, good catches. Advising on action as necessary to control hazard as appropriate.
  • Prepare monthly performance reports on environmental & sustainability performance and supply management information as appropriate for presentation at management meetings
  • Provide specific support to Customer Connections

About You

  • Good knowledge of environmental legislation, environmental management systems, National Grid policy, procedure and best practice in relation to environment management as well a working knowledge of the Infrastructure Delivery businesses and organisation is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability and confidence to communicate and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
  • Passion for environmental sustainability, with high levels of enthusiasm and drive to achieve results
  • Team working, committed to performance improvement
  • Experience of working with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders preferable
  • Committed to stakeholder satisfaction and performance improvement
  • Resilient, with the confidence and courage to challenge behaviours and issues
  • Broad appreciation of National Grid’s business and how sustainability can help to achieve its objectives
  • Good organisational, planning and time management skills
  • Conveys complex information simply and in plain language
  • Takes accountability for ensuring team objectives are met.
  • Willingness to learn how sustainable principles apply to our business.

 

  • Suitable technical/professional qualification such as Degree, ONC, Diploma or equivalent
  • Member of IEMA or other professional body desirable

What You'll Get

A competitive salary between £54,000 – £64,000 dependent on capability
