EPC Project Manager
About the role
Great Britain's electricity infrastructure is undergoing an ambitious, exciting and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, greener system that protects the planet and serves generations to come.
As an EPC Project Manager at National Grid, you'll play a critical role in delivering major high-voltage infrastructure projects that support the UK's transition to a cleaner, greener energy system. Our work spans large-scale cable replacement programmes and overhead line (OHL) refurbishment projects across England and Wales, delivering the infrastructure needed to connect more low-carbon energy to the network and meet future energy demand.
You'll be responsible for managing projects from early development through construction and close-out, ensuring robust governance, regulatory compliance, and excellent delivery outcomes. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, you'll balance safety, cost, quality, programme delivery, and environmental responsibilities across a portfolio of complex transmission projects.
We currently have an opportunity within our South Central region, covering projects across the south of England, from Exeter to Kent (excluding London). This is a hybrid role requiring an average of 2-3 days per week on site, alongside travel to project locations, stakeholder meetings, and occasional office attendance, with the remainder worked from home.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead projects through development, construction, commissioning, and close-out, ensuring strong governance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation, CDM Regulations, Environmental requirements, and National Grid standards.
- Act as the Client's Delegated Representative and undertake the Principal Designer role where required under CDM regulations.
- Manage project programmes, budgets, risks, opportunities, and stakeholder relationships to ensure successful delivery.
- Produce regular project reports, including programme updates, financial forecasts, risk management, and performance reporting.
- Fulfil the role of NEC Project Manager, or equivalent, across a range of contract types.
- Provide technical oversight and support on major transmission projects, particularly Overhead Line (OHL) works and associated infrastructure.
What you'll need
We're looking for a delivery-focused project professional with strong technical expertise and a passion for delivering critical infrastructure safely and efficiently. To succeed in this role, you'll bring:
- Proven experience delivering major infrastructure or construction projects from inception through to completion.
- Strong experience within the electricity transmission, utilities, rail, telecommunications, or wider infrastructure sectors.
- Experience of Overhead Line (OHL) projects or other high-voltage transmission infrastructure is highly desirable.
- A solid understanding of project delivery methodologies and contract management, ideally with NEC contracts.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills.
- A strong understanding of construction Health & Safety requirements and industry best practice.
- The ability to balance technical delivery requirements with programme, commercial, and regulatory considerations.
- A proactive approach, strong problem-solving capability, and a willingness to learn and develop.
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively across the South Central region.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ideally based within reasonable commuting distance of projects across the south of England, with locations including Wiltshire, Devon, Kent and surrounding areas.
- Comfortable working on live construction sites and spending regular time on project locations.
