EPC Project Manager

Business Unit:  Strategic Infrastructure
Requisition Number:  4113

About the role

This is the time for action – we need to move at pace and reform our energy system – to deliver energy security, to tackle climate change and to protect our people.

To help drive national energy projects

Your role will be to manage EPC projects to time and budget, hitting key milestones along the way. You will use your proficiency to deliver and manage your projects as you see fit and the lessons learnt from your work will be shared across the wider business.

This role is to be based in North London/Hertfordshire, with regular attendance to office and site.

About you

  • The most important thing is that you’re excited about building the kind of infrastructure that will help make Net Zero happen.

  • You will be working in a busy, buoyant environment with lots of variety and change. You’ll need to be resilient, driven, and good at prioritising and managing your own time, particularly when the unexpected crops up.

  • The strength of a project depends on excellent teamwork so you’ll have to be good with people too. You make decisions based on the greater good and carefully consider the communities you are working in.

  • Experience of project management or engineering would be desirable but not essential.

  • Some overnight travel will be required.

What you'll do

  • Managing one or more EPC projects, depending on the project lifecycle.

  • Quickly getting projects back on track if they slow down, mindful that any slippages will adversely affect the portfolio as a whole.

  • Employing a robust risk management process.

  • Whenever a project requires changes, ensuring the project remains within governance.

  • Hitting budgets to monthly, yearly and completion deadlines.

  • Delivering your projects’ CapEx spend.

  • Utilising value engineering to reduce costs whilst remaining within scope.

  • Fostering an environment where everyone, regardless of seniority, feels able to share their concerns. As an organisation we are driven by safety. We have an industry leading ‘Safe to Say’ policy which encourages colleagues to speak up and take ownership of safety issues.

  • Displaying a visible commitment to safety and setting the tone of project safety. For example, by conducting site visits and providing timely feedback on improvements.

  • Ensuring visible and accessible communications are in place throughout the life of a project, such as safety charters and notifications of incidents and lessons learnt. You will also share good practices and reinforce positive behaviours.

  • Looking after your projects’ safety, health, environment, security and quality obligations, adhering to all relevant internal and external policies and regulations.

  • Leading in a way that ensures we deliver what we promised, and that everyone in your team is motivated to deliver results in the right way.

  • Fostering a collaborative environment with the supply chain, including principal contractors; suppliers of services and plant; customers; landowners; and local authorities, residents and businesses. You will also support your team in working with Ofgem and MPs.

  • Creating an atmosphere of trust where no one is isolated and everyone’s opinions are welcomed, learned from, and used to improve things.

  • Acting with fairness and honesty in your communications. When things aren’t going to plan you will share your learnings, and when they are you will celebrate your team’s successes.

  • Mentoring members of your team and supporting their ongoing professional development.

What you'll get

A competitive salary between £54,000 - £64,000 dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.

About Us

The British Energy Security Strategy set out the Government's ambition to connect up to 50GW of offshore generation to the electricity network by 2030. Facilitating this ambition will require significant reinforcements to the onshore electricity transmission network. National Grid Strategic Infrastructure will make this happen.

Here at National Grid, we connect homes and businesses to power, making sure supply and demand match each other. We make sure the lights are on in schools, operating theatres, and sporting arenas; we’re thousands of people working on behalf of millions of people.

Our investment in Strategic Infrastructure via the Great Grid Upgrade will mean more home grown power, greater energy security and a cleaner future.

Whatever your role, wherever you work with us, you’ll help us hit stretching targets and achieve our far-reaching goal: to secure, clean energy that supports our world far into the future. Here, you will be at the heart of energy.
