Job Purpose
Drive a positive health and wellbeing culture at the heart of National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET)

As Construction Safety Specialist, you’ll provide Safety, Health, and Environmental support for our construction projects including Overhead Line, Substation and Cable works. Regularly visiting sites to reinforce safety compliance and safety performance specifically around construction safety risks, you’ll have the opportunity to work with colleagues, and leaders throughout NGET, empowering them to take full accountability for safety leadership within their respective areas of the business.
Monitoring and providing assurance, you’ll coach, advise, train, motivate, inspire and encourage managers, staff and our supply chain partners to deliver legislative compliance and promote continuous improvement.
You’ll be a source of expertise on Health and Safety at Work and provide specialist advice on the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and industry standards, driving the implementation of company strategy to enable responsibility and accountability to reside with line managers and staff, with emphasis on behavioural safety.
In addition, you’ll support on Incident Investigation and Lessons Learned activities throughout the organisation.
What You'll Need
- With a thorough knowledge of HSE legislation and behavioural safety programmes, you’ll have ideally worked in similar construction HSE role.
- You’ll have a strong understanding and working knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 with demonstrable experience from either the client or contractor side, working with other duty holders, and ensuring compliance.
- A good knowledge or awareness of industry standard policies, procedures, processes, and specifications, particularly how projects are delivered in the construction phase is key, as is experience developing robust assurance programs including communicating these at a site level.
- Experience in conducting incident investigations and report writing skills, including root cause analysis would be advantageous, coupled with the ability to recommend preventative action.
- Good inter-personal skills with proven skills in coaching and motivating people and the ability communicate and influence effectively at all levels is essential as is effective organisational skills.
- You will hold a NEBOSH General Certificate (OHS) or Construction Certificate/Health and Safety Management for Construction (UK) and have a current full driving licence.
