We're recruiting for a Construction Manager to join our Strategic Infrastructure Onshore team, supporting the delivery of critical energy projects across Wales. This role will require regular travel to project sites across Pentir and Trawsfynydd. We’re happy to discuss flexible working arrangements to support your work-life balance.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Project Director, the Construction Manager will play a pivotal leadership role in the safe and successful delivery of our Strategic Infrastructure Onshore projects. You'll be responsible for ensuring the consistent implementation of legal, regulatory and business SHESQ (Safety, Health, Environment, Sustainability and Quality) requirements across multiple construction sites and project teams.

Leading a team of Project Supervisors, you'll act as the Employer's Supervisor under NEC contracts, ensuring works are delivered in accordance with contractual obligations, planning requirements and National Grid standards. The role will also provide strategic leadership across project supervision activities, driving operational excellence, resource optimisation, capability development and continuous improvement throughout the programme.

What You'll do

• Lead, develop and performance manage a team of up to 10 Project Supervisors, supporting the safe delivery of the Onshore ASTI portfolio to agreed cost, quality and schedule requirements.
• Provide leadership and oversight across multiple construction sites, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with contractual and planning requirements.
• Act as National Grid's primary day-to-day construction interface with contractors, proactively managing project risks and escalating issues where required.
• Coordinate internal and external support functions to ensure compliance with SHESQ requirements, planning obligations and National Grid policies and procedures.
• Drive the implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of health, safety, environmental, sustainability and quality processes across assigned projects.
• Optimise Project Supervisor resource allocation across the wider programme to maximise performance and project outcomes.
• Provide performance updates, technical guidance and strategic advice to Senior Project Managers and Project Directors.
• Lead regular construction meetings, contractor engagements and site safety walks to ensure works are delivered in accordance with approved Construction Phase Plans.
• Establish and promote a culture of continuous improvement, capturing lessons learned and sharing best practice across Strategic Infrastructure and the wider business.
• Support incident investigations, ensuring learning outcomes are embedded into future project delivery activities.
• Oversee the management and control of project documentation to ensure compliance with legislative and governance requirements.
• Ensure team members maintain the appropriate levels of training, competence and authorisation, while supporting succession planning and organisational capability development.
• Work closely with the SHES function to support assurance activities, audits and proactive compliance programmes.

About You

We're looking for a strategic and experienced construction leader who can drive high standards of delivery while building strong relationships across a complex stakeholder environment.

You'll bring:

• Significant experience managing large-scale, complex construction projects through the delivery phase.
• Extensive knowledge of construction health, safety and environmental legislation, including a strong understanding of CDM Regulations and Client and Principal Contractor responsibilities.
• Proven leadership experience, with the ability to develop, motivate and manage high-performing teams.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the confidence to challenge and collaborate at all levels.
• Comprehensive project management expertise, including risk management and delivery against scope, time, cost, quality and safety objectives.
• Experience working on multi-disciplinary construction projects within commercially driven environments.
• Strong understanding of quality assurance processes, site inspections and inspection and test plans.
• Knowledge of contract management principles, including fixed-price and target-cost contracts.
• A degree-level qualification (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline.
• A full UK driving licence.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

• NEBOSH General Certificate (preferred) or IOSH qualification as a minimum.
• Experience of quality and environmental management systems, such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
• CQI / IRCA Quality in Construction training.
• Knowledge of National Grid policies, procedures and specifications relating to construction, materials, and SHESQ requirements.

A competitive salary up to £80,000 per annum based on experience. This role comes with a job requirement car.
