Commercial Manager
About the role

As we build the networks needed to support a cleaner, more sustainable future, we’re looking for a talented Commercial Manager to play a key role in delivering major infrastructure projects that will power Britain for generations to come.
You will lead a team of Quantity Surveyors and take responsibility for maximising the commercial performance of large-scale construction projects. You’ll ensure value for money for consumers while operating within the regulatory framework, managing commercial risk, and supporting the successful delivery of National Grid’s ambitious investment programme.
Working across a diverse portfolio of projects, you will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including our Electricity Transmission Partnership, helping to shape commercial strategies and contractual arrangements that will support the delivery of critical energy infrastructure through to 2030 and beyond.
What you'll be doing
- Leading the commercial delivery of major infrastructure projects from procurement through to completion.
- Managing NEC3/NEC4 contracts, ensuring effective cost control, risk management and value optimisation.
- Identifying and mitigating commercial risks, while supporting the resolution of contractual issues and disputes.
- Building strong relationships with internal teams and external partners to drive successful project outcomes.
- Leading, coaching and developing a team of Quantity Surveyors, supporting both performance and professional growth.
- Working closely with Procurement to shape tender strategies and negotiate commercial arrangements that deliver the best value for National Grid and consumers.
This is a hybrid role, combining office and home-based working with regular travel to project sites across England and Wales. It offers a unique opportunity to contribute to nationally significant infrastructure projects while developing your career within one of the UK's most important organisations.
About You
You’ll be an experienced commercial professional with a strong track record of delivering value within large, complex organisations, ideally across major infrastructure or construction programmes. Combining commercial expertise with strong stakeholder management skills, you’ll be comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment where collaboration, influence and strategic thinking are key.
We’re looking for someone who brings:
- Experience in a commercial, quantity surveying or financial management role, ideally on major infrastructure or construction projects using NEC3 or NEC4 contracts.
- Strong commercial and financial skills, with experience managing contracts, costs and risk.
- Experience leading and developing teams, including those working across multiple locations.
- An understanding of commercial strategy and financial planning within a regulated or similar environment.
- Knowledge of the UK energy sector or transmission infrastructure would be beneficial but isn't essential.
- An appreciation of procurement processes and regulatory requirements and how these impact project delivery and commercial decisions.
