BNG and Environmental Legacy Delivery Officer
We’re looking for a BNG & Environmental Legacy Delivery Officer to join our Land Management Sustainability Team!
In this role, you'll undertake a broad range of activities associated with the delivery and long-term management of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), landscaping commitments, and wider Environmental Legacy obligations across National Grid Electricity Transmission’s non-operational estate. You'll play a key role in ensuring environmental commitments are successfully transferred from project teams into long-term stewardship arrangements, helping to deliver positive environmental outcomes while maintaining compliance with regulatory and consent requirements.
You'll be involved in the day-to-day management of assigned BNG and Environmental Legacy sites and work packages, taking responsibility for site handovers, contractor and consultant mobilisation, procurement activities, monitoring programmes, and the progression of remedial actions. Working closely with project teams, environmental specialists, land agents, contractors, and consultants, you'll help ensure environmental commitments are practical, adequately funded, and effectively delivered throughout their lifecycle.
Working in a dynamic and evolving environment, you'll contribute to the development of governance, delivery processes, and management frameworks that support the long-term stewardship of environmental obligations. You'll use your technical knowledge and project coordination skills to manage delivery activities, resolve routine issues, monitor performance, and support the successful achievement of National Grid's environmental commitments.
This is a variable-base role, with Warwick serving as the primary location for team meetings, collaboration, and business activities. We encourage a hybrid approach to working, with the flexibility to work remotely alongside office-based attendance as required.
The role also involves occasional travel to sites across the UK, typically around once per month, to support stakeholder engagement, site visits, and programme delivery. We're happy to discuss any additional flexibility that could help make this role work for you.
What You’ll Do:
- Independently lead the day-to-day delivery and long-term management of assigned BNG and Environmental Legacy sites and work packages, in line with agreed portfolio priorities and governance.
- Coordinate the transfer of assigned environmental obligations from project teams into long-term management, ensuring requirements, funding, responsibilities, records and outstanding actions are clearly documented.
- Review Biodiversity Net Gain commitments, Habitat Management Plans, Landscape and Ecological Management Plans and associated environmental obligations.
- Develop delivery scopes and coordinate procurement activities through approved procurement routes, obtaining appropriate technical, commercial or management approval where required.
- Manage the mobilisation and day-to-day performance of appointed contractors and consultants for assigned sites, monitoring progress against agreed deliverables and escalating material performance concerns.
- Review ecological monitoring outputs, identify required follow-up actions and coordinate proportionate remedial measures with relevant specialists and delivery partners.
- Coordinate site-level obligations monitoring and reporting, ensuring progress, compliance status, supporting evidence, risks and remedial actions are accurately recorded and reported through agreed internal governance processes and, where required, to Local Planning Authorities and other relevant external bodies.
What You’ll Have:
- A recognised degree, professional qualification or equivalent experience in ecology, biodiversity, conservation, environmental management, sustainability, land management or a related discipline.
- Demonstrable experience in a project delivery, stakeholder management, environmental management, land management or contractor/supplier coordination role, where relevant transferable skills can be evidenced.
- Knowledge and understanding of Biodiversity Net Gain and wider Environmental Legacy obligations, including habitat management, landscaping and visual screening commitments, ecological mitigation, protected species habitat requirements, compensation sites and environmental land management.
- Strong project delivery and coordination skills, with the ability to independently manage multiple assigned sites and work packages from handover through to long-term management.
- Experience of coordinating or managing contractors, consultants, project teams or suppliers, including monitoring progress, addressing routine delivery or performance issues and escalating material concerns where required.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across multidisciplinary internal and external teams.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain environmental requirements, delivery risks and practical actions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
