Associate Project Manager
About the Role
Would you like to become a Project Manager? Then our Associate EPC Project Manager role is an excellent career move. You’ll be working on some of the biggest, most exciting projects in green energy.
Projects that enable us to deliver key milestones in our collective Net Zero ambitions, such as the delivery of 50GW of offshore wind by 2030.
As an Associate EPC Project Manager you’ll be supporting the EPC Project Manager or Lead Project Manager to administer contracts across a portfolio. As you do this you’ll be supported and trained to become an EPC Project Manager yourself.
This role will support the delivery of the Weston Marsh to East Leicestershire Project and will be based across the East and West Midlands region. You will be expected to travel to 2-3 times a week operational and delivery sites and locations throughout your working week based on project demands. Operational or delivery roles requiring attendance at multiple sites within a region. Travel to our Birmingham project office.
About You
- You are a logical problem solver with an eagerness to learn and a hunger to succeed. You are positive and want to contribute, not just in terms of your day-to-day role but to our larger Net Zero aims too. You are committed to a cleaner energy future and highly motivated to make a difference
- Ideally you already have an understanding of National Grid and NEC EPC contracts.
- At the minimum you have a HND, ideally in engineering or project management, or equivalent experience. We’d like you to have engineering, and preferably utilities, experience too.
- You’ll need a driving licence.
What You'll Do
Safety
As an organisation we are driven by safety. We have an industry leading ‘Safe to Say’ policy which calls for colleagues to always speak up and take ownership of safety issues.
Working with the project team you will help drive exceptional safety standards. You will undertake safety leadership tours, sensible monitoring of work activities and set the standards on projects across the wider business.
You will act as an ambassador for safety at all times.
Contract management
Our partner agreements within Strategic Infrastructure utilise the NEC contract, and you will support your EPC Project Manager to administer EPC contracts across the project.
You will draft contractual communications, including the EPC Project Manager’s instructions.
You will support the EPC Project Manager with any other contractual matters, such as reviewing compensation events, issuing instructions, programme acceptance, and payment application reviews.
Financial management
You will support the EPC Project Manager in successfully managing project budgets and accurately forecasting spend profiles. You will report financial information within required timescales and escalate financial issues when necessary.
Month on month you will manage finances within budget target parameters of +/- 5% accuracy.
You will report financial information such as contractor spend and forecast, internal spend and forecast, contingencies and material purchases.
Financial efficiency will be another accountability. You will work with contractors to develop a project’s scope as efficiently as possible.
Risk management
You will assist the EPC Project Manager in successfully identifying, quantifying and managing risks on the project.
Assessing the impact a risk has on timescales, costs and resources will be another of your tasks.
Responsibility for maintaining an up to date risk register will lie with you. You will collate and report on it on a monthly basis.
Stakeholder management
You will support the EPC Project Manager in maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders. These might include DNOs, generating companies, government and regulatory authorities, Ofgem, land owners, farmers and local communities. They will also include internal National Grid departments, such as Asset Operations, Customer Connections and the Electricity System Operator.
All your communications with stakeholders will be timely, clear, concise and professional.
As necessary you will attend meetings, public events, respond to correspondence and talk to the media.
What You'll Get
A competitive salary between £47,000 -£56,000 – dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
