National Grid is hiring for an Asset Lifecycle Engineer - FACTS. We have an exceptional opportunity for an experienced professional to join us at a pivotal time as we enter RIIO T3, an exciting new regulatory period focused on growth, innovation, and the rapid advancement of technology. This position will join a high performing team currently based at our Warwick and Bristol offices on a Hybrid Working model.

Job Purpose

 

As the Asset Lifecycle Engineer for FACTS, you will be instrumental in overseeing the entire cradle-to-grave journey of FACTS assets. Your role will involve ensuring that new assets are seamlessly integrated into the system through effective type registration, guaranteeing that each model is fit for purpose and complies with all relevant standards and regulations. Once assets are operational, you will focus on maintaining their health by conducting thorough asset health reviews, ensuring that all equipment is well-maintained and operating efficiently. You will be responsible for developing and amending policies and procedures, as well as writing and updating documentation to reflect best practices. Collaboration will be key, as you will work closely with assurance engineers and transmission engineers to ensure that all aspects of asset management are aligned. Your expertise in the primary asset knowledge of FACTS devices, such as capacitive compensation, SVCs, and STATCOMs, converters, valves, and other electrical assets, will be vital in driving the success of our portfolio. Experience with FACTS or HVDC projects and asset health management, particularly in relation to plants, valves, and instrument transformers, will be highly advantageous.

What you'll do

 

  • Provide detailed, expert technical and asset management knowledge for FACTS devices and systems.
  • Create and amend policies, technical specifications, work specifications, internal standards, and technical guidance within for FACTS devices and systems.
  • Lead the development of the Technical Strategy within specific areas of technical expertise.
  • Undertake type registration activities in line with relevant business processes.
  • Engage with suppliers to inform and influence end-to-end lifecycle management of FACTS assets, including type registration, operational & maintenance support, obsolescence management, and refurbishment/replacement.
  • Communicate complex and standard issues associated with the area of expertise clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Represent National Grid on appropriate national and international committees.
  • Support and mentor other team members.

About you

 

Interpersonal, Supervisory or Management: 

 

  • Ability to work under challenging deadlines.
  • Proven ability to develop working relationships quickly, effectively, and communicate clearly and diplomatically.
  • Proven experience of communication with, and influencing, internal and external stakeholders (e.g., regulators, managers). T

 

Technical or Specialist

 

  • Excellent technical knowledge of one or more technical areas relevant to Electricity Transmission, including FACTS devices and systems.
  • Detailed understanding of regulatory policies, procedures, Technical Specifications, Work Specifications, and Technical Guidance Notes in the area of expertise.
  • Detailed understanding of the Electricity Transmission Type Registration process and regulatory regime.
  • Knowledge of Asset Management Systems.
  • Experience and understanding of asset management principles with a proven track record of developing processes that support business risk, cost, and performance decision-making.

 

 

Qualifications

 

Essential

  • Engineering degree or equivalent experience in a relevant engineering environment.
  • Can evidence experience of specification, design, development, maintenance and/or lifetime management of FACTS equipment (e.g. Capacitive compensation, SVCs, STATCOMs).
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of the principles of Asset Management.
  • Membership or the ability to be a member of relevant professional body.

 

Desirable 

  • Institute of Asset Management “Principles of Asset Management” certificate.

A competitive salary around £51,899 to £65,000 pa + £3,000 pa Market Supplement + Benefits package

 

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
