Chief Gas Mechanic A
About the Position:
We are presently seeking to fill a Chief Gas Mechanic A position in Troy, at a starting hourly rate of $52.26. Under general supervision to work with and direct the activities of a group of employees engaged in the construction, inspection, maintenance and testing of gas transmission, distribution and regulating facilities; to see that the work is performed in accordance with all requirements and to perform all related assignments.
Perform the most complex types of installation and repair work on Gas Transmission, Distribution and Regulating systems; to operate the most complicated types of construction equipment associated with such work.
Perform maintenance and repair on Steel and Cast-Iron systems. Proven understanding of pipe joining, tapping and stopping of distribution systems is required. Install, maintain and replace plastic systems, experience and certification in plastic joining, familiar with plastic fusing equipment, perform cutting and threading of service piping, turn on and lighting customer appliances. Demonstrate knowledge of natural gas chemistry and principals of natural gas. Must demonstrate knowledge of Industry standard Safety practices, OSHA regulations, FERC and NGA accepted Safety standards and practices. Must demonstrate knowledge of NYSCRR’s (specifically part 255, 753, etc.) Familiar with Public Service Commission compliance and inspections. Position is a scheduled job and will require nights and weekends.
Job Qualifications:
- Must have High School Diploma or equivalent
- Associates degree in a related field is preferred
- Must have at least five to ten years' experience as a Gas Mechanic working for a pipeline and/or Utility Contractor or equivalent with a thorough knowledge of Industry standard practices applicable to this type of work in the assigned area; as determined by management
- Must complete a comprehensive interview and competency exam demonstrating basic knowledge of Standards, Operating Procedures and Safety procedures used in the Federally regulated pipeline industry.
- Must have a NYS Class A CDL
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of various excavating equipment required (e.g. Backhoe Operation, Track excavator, Loader, Trenchers, Skid Steer equipment, etc.).
- Experience and knowledge of Horizontal Directional Drilling equipment is desirable.
- Must pass a Physical Abilities Test, Respirator Fit Test

- $52.26/Hr

As such, the Company’s testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.
Many of the terms and conditions of employment for this position are defined by a collective bargaining agreement that the Company has with a local union. Newly hired employees are bound by the terms of the collective bargaining agreement as well as other agreements between the Company and the local union.
