Our Gridtern Program provides current college students the ability to gain practical experience within the energy industry. Your summer will begin on Monday, June 15, 2026, and will be filled with meaningful work experiences, professional development, networking opportunities, community involvement, and most importantly, have fun!

Available Roles

Corporate Affairs - Brand Center of Excellence (Syracuse, NY) 

Our Brand Center of Excellence is a global team responsible for managing National Grid’s digital content, web presence, branding, creative design, events, sponsorships, and speakerships. The team is currently leading a multi-year Brand Audit and Refresh, as well as developing a comprehensive Brand History project.  
 
As a Gridtern, you will have the opportunity to contribute to global projects across the Brand Center of Excellence in Corporate Affairs. You’ll gain hands-on experience in areas such as account management, brand stewardship, event marketing and operations, and social media creative services. Projects will be tailored to your interests to create a mutually beneficial experience and may include work on brand history, ad creation, marketing campaigns, sports sponsorships and activations, as well as global account project management.

Customer Meter Service (Liverpool, NY) 

Our Customer Meter Service (CMS) team interacts directly with our customers daily and plays a crucial role in providing safe and reliable service. This team is responsible for all gas and electric emergency responses, meter installations, changes, on/offs, meter reading, and collections, often representing National Grid within the communities we serve.  
 
As a Gridtern, you will have the opportunity to assist the team in developing a comprehensive scorecard for our organization that will provide valuable insights and highlight individual performance trends—comparing results across peers and regions to help employees understand their impact. This role will involve gathering data from multiple sources, compiling it into a one-page document, and making it accessible for employees to view digitally or in print. Your time with this team will enhance your skills in Power BI and Excel, as well as your creative problem-solving abilities.

Meter Data Services (Syracuse, NY) 

Our Meter Data Services team is responsible for collecting all Gas and Electric customer meter reads on both a daily and monthly reading scheduled. The meter readings are utilized for Critical processes which include Billing, NY and NE Retail and Wholesale Settlement, Gas Nomination, Electric forecasting, Outage Management, and Demand Response Programs.  MDS is critical to the financial revenue stream for National Grid.   

  

As a Gridtern in Meter Data Services (MDS), you will work on Load Research models and Power BI modules, gaining insights into Gas Meter Reading Collection and Billing Gas Customers. You will also be introduced to Electric Meter Reading collection, providing you with a comprehensive understanding of meter data services within the energy sector.

NY Colleague Communication and Engagement (Syracuse, NY) 

Our Colleague Communications & Engagement team leads strategic, purpose-driven communication and engagement initiatives across our organization. Their efforts amplify National Grid’s cultural strengths, promote colleague advocacy, enhance business performance, and make our organization a great place to work for everyone. By promoting awareness and understanding of our organization’s vision, values, and energy future, this team consistently develops innovative content and facilitates two-way dialogue with colleagues and the greater team.  

  

As a Gridtern, you will play a key role in creating content for our internal communication channels, including the intranet and internal social media, while also measuring its impact to help us continually improve. You’ll support the coordination of a variety of social events – ranging from our Virtual All Hands Calls that connect more than 2,500 colleagues together to in-person gatherings. In addition, you’ll contribute by writing stories and producing short videos that celebrate employee achievements and spotlight teams who bring our Values in Action to life.

NY Real Estate and Property Services (Syracuse, NY) 

Our New York Real Estate and Property Services team supports the organization’s operations while maintaining and strategically developing a diverse portfolio of properties across New York State. This includes managing real estate transactions, developing property strategies, and providing support for both day-to-day operations and capital projects. This team ensures that property assets align with business needs while meeting operational and financial goals, with all activities carried out with a strong focus on safety and regulatory compliance.  
 
As a Gridtern, you will support Real Estate by accurately compiling various property rights held by the company across New York. In this role, you will conduct historical research of company records as part of that work while also supporting Integrated Property Services Contract Governance through validation of the functional matrix within the JLL Integrated Portfolio Services agreement. This opportunity will allow you to build knowledge in real estate management and compliance while contributing to key organizational initiatives.

NY Safety Policies and Programs (Syracuse, NY) 

Our New York Safety Policies and Programs team develops, manages, and implements worker safety programs for the greater New York area. This team oversees our Incident Management System, including incident classification, data analysis, and the publication of metrics based on incident data. Lastly, they are responsible for ensuring New York compliance with federal and state occupational safety regulations.  
 
As a Gridtern, you will have the opportunity to focus on the assignment of safety training to workers and assess the effectiveness of its implementation. This role will provide you with a deeper understanding of industrial safety while helping you enhance your project management skills. Additionally, you will assist in creating awareness videos for key safety programs.

SAP Billing (Syracuse, NY) 

Our SAP Billing team handles non-utility billing for our U.S. business and oversees the control program for the Complex Billing department. As part of the Complex Billing department within our broader Customer organization, the control program supports utility, non-utility, and customer choice billing processes by documenting risks, enhancing controls, and acting as a liaison and partner for control-related matters.  
 
As a Gridtern, you will collaborate with stakeholders to identify risks, enhance controls, and document procedures, contributing to the expansion and improvement of our process library. You will assist in reviewing existing procedures, identifying gaps, standardizing practices, and organizing annual procedure reviews and training in SharePoint. Your contributions in this role will improve transparency and consistency across billing operations, while providing you the opportunity to work with diverse teams and gain valuable professional experience. 

What You’ll Need

  • Availability to start on the program start date, June 15, 2026, and work full-time (40 hours a week) for the duration of the summer 
  • Must be registered as a full-time student and continue your education full-time through the Fall 2026 semester 
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree 
  • Majoring in Marketing, Communications, Psychology, Business Administration, Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety, Project Management, Public Health, Engineering, Natural Science, Journalism, English, Data Science, Finance, Accounting, Data Management or related majors. 
  • Have accumulated 18 or more credits and be at least 18 years of age  
  • Possess work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (including CPT & OPT) 
  • Some Gridtern positions will require a valid US Driver’s license with a safe driving history that complies with National Grid’s Safe Driver policy. This qualification will be specified in the department specific Gridtern role(s) descriptions at point of interview

Salary Range
$18.00-$25.00 an hour

 

Candidates will be assessed and provided offers based on major, degree type, and class year. Our Gridtern Program does not offer relocation, housing assistance, or public transportation reimbursement for Gridterns; however, we can provide a list of resources to utilize in making your arrangements.

 

Please note that as a Gridtern, you must reside within our existing footprint, which includes Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont. You must also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to your assigned primary office.
