Job Purpose
As a Senior Construction Supervisor, you will play a key leadership role in delivering critical infrastructure projects that keep our communities connected and our customers served. Working closely with the Manager or Lead Construction Supervisor, you will oversee contract construction crews responsible for both maintenance and new construction activities across the network.
In this highly visible role, you will coordinate and monitor daily field operations, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. You will serve as a trusted partner to contractors, championing a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance.

What You'll Do
- Lead and support external contract construction crews performing maintenance and construction activities.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company, regulatory, and environmental requirements.
- Monitor project progress, quality, and productivity to deliver successful outcomes.
- Build strong relationships with contractors, internal stakeholders, and customers.
- Help ensure reliable, uninterrupted service through effective planning, oversight, and execution of field operations.
- Contribute to infrastructure improvements that support the communities we serve.
Key Accountabilities
- Coordinate the daily activities of assigned external contractors performing construction, maintenance and restoration work associated with electric utility civil construction. Work in unison with other National Grid departments to ensure a seamless transition of work.
- Monitor job progress, document crew activities and prepare reports.
- Assure that high standards of safety, security and environmental compliance are consistently followed at assigned work locations.
- Fully understand the assigned project scope and contract work authorization details. Interface with project stakeholders to ensure job commitments are delivered on time and within budget.
- Ensure company guidelines and procedures, standards, and environmental and safety regulations are consistently adhered to. Assure compliance to all applicable Federal, state, local and National Grid guidelines, laws and regulations.
- Provide quality assurance that the work being performed is per National Grid specifications, standards and applicable contractual documents.
- Work with other supervisors and departments to review engineering drawings, technical specifications. Survey site locations for constructability considerations, confirm proper permits and licenses are available prior to work start and attend project meetings as requested.
- Document contract crew activities prepare and present periodic oral and written update reports and verify the accuracy of contractor invoicing. This will include ensuring adherence to contract documents to completion and monitoring change orders and reasoning. Report on job progress utilizing a web-based reporting database.
- Ensure successful performance of assigned contract crews and help to encourage a "continuous improvement" field work environment within a performance-based culture.
Qualifications
- At least 5 years of construction and/or military experience with increasing levels of responsibility, preferably in utility construction; OR An associate degree (2-year technical degree) in engineering, construction technology, or a related field required.
- Knowledge of OSHA, environmental, federal, state, local, and company safety regulations preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schematics, contracts, and scope of work documents.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify potential issues and develop practical solutions before work begins.
- Working knowledge of construction methods, equipment, materials, and safe work practices, including hazard recognition and mitigation preferred.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational, time management, and recordkeeping skills.
- Ability to travel throughout the service territory and work extended hours as needed, including during emergency response and restoration efforts required.
- Valid driver's license with a driving record that meets National Grid's Safe Driver Policy required.
- Experience in utility construction, electric distribution, gas distribution, telecommunications, or related infrastructure projects preferred.
- Technical, vocational, or military training related to construction, engineering, utilities, or field operations preferred.

Salary: $119,000 - $139.000 per year
