National Grid is hiring an Lead Program Manager, Technology Innovation for our Energy Efficiency & Clean Programs department in Waltham, MA.
Job Purpose
As electrification accelerates and distributed energy resources (DERs) expand, National Grid is scaling customer‑sited flexibility solutions that improve grid reliability, enable clean energy integration, support beneficial electrification, and manage system constraints. The Lead Program Manager, DER Flexibility Products, will guide delivery and evolution of core flexibility initiatives, including a commercial new construction grid-interactive building demonstration and a residential virtual power plant (VPP) pilot. The candidate will support the design of scalable solutions that leverage customer and developer resources to ensure operational reliability and expand access to flexible energy options.
Key Accountabilities
• Lead end-to-end delivery, execution, and refinement of DER flexibility pilot programs; translate program learnings into scaled future standard offerings.
• Coordinate cross‑functional implementation with engineering, regulatory, customer programs, digital, procurement, and operations teams; manage vendor relationships, project timelines, customer qualification workflows, and integration activities to ensure smooth execution.
• Engage customers, developers, and stakeholders to identify project opportunities, support customer readiness, define participation requirements, and communicate operational expectations and benefits.
• Support regulatory filings, reporting, and cost‑recovery documentation; contribute to commercialization strategy, KPI development, performance tracking, and continuous improvement across flexibility offerings.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Energy Management, Business, Economics, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
• 5–7 years of program management experience in the energy sector, with demonstrated experience leading cross‑functional initiatives, customer‑facing DER programs, or pilot deployments involving DERs.
• Knowledge of DER technologies and associated systems, including how customer assets are dispatched by distributed energy resource management systems, and utility regulatory environments.
• Strong analytical, communication, and leadership capabilities; proficiency with Microsoft Office and project‑management tools.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, regulatory, and customer‑facing teams; strong customer and market awareness related to flexible DER adoption
• Ability to travel within MA and domestically, as needed.
