Job Purpose

 

 

Responsible for the engineering, design, and technical oversight of telemetry, instrumentation, and control systems for natural gas facilities.

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Perform instrumentation and controls (I&C) engineering and design for natural gas construction projects which may include regulator station, gate stations, large metering, natural gas heaters, and remote operated equipment.
  • Develop, design, and implement programmable logic controller (PLC) control schemes for remote terminal units (RTUs) including flow switching, metering, remote loading, flow control, pressure control, burner control, and telecommunications.
  • Prepare detailed design specifications, material lists, and requisitions to support project execution.
  • Read, review, redline, and design P&IDs, loop diagrams, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Collaborate with Gas System Operator and CNI to develop telemetry systems for gas assets using control room management techniques.
  • Provide expertise to field crews constructing, calibrating, commissioning, and troubleshooting equipment such as RTUs, water bath heaters, dryline heaters, and gas analyzers.
  • Incorporate applicable standards, procedures, and State/Federal statutory requirements into gas system designs.
  • Interpret and incorporate corporate process safety procedures. Act as subject matter expert in process hazard analysis design reviews for regulator stations and natural gas heaters.
  • Compile and review as-built documentation for accuracy and incorporation into mapping and document management systems.
  • Participate and/or lead inter-regional projects activities. This may require travel outside of assigned service territories.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor of Science Degree from an ABET-accredited Electrical or Computer Engineering program or similar.
  • Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of I&C engineering design is required.
  • Professional Engineering license (NYS preferred) or the ability to obtain within 3 years.
  • Commitment to safety as a core value.
  • Experience in the application of design and construction standards, engineering drawings, and procedures.
  • Experience in the application of I&C systems for natural gas applications.
  • Technical knowledge of natural gas system design and operations including natural gas industry codes and regulations, grounding, corrosion, and AC mitigation preferred.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code, hazardous area classification, PHMSA, and applicable State regulations.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with safe driving history.

Upstate NY Salary: $122,000 - $143,000 a year
