Designer A-Structural
Job Responsibilities:
We are presently seeking a Designer A-Structural for an opening in Syracuse. In addition to a starting wage of $49.35 per hour, we offer excellent benefits including medical, dental, life insurance, 401(k) plan, vacation, tuition assistance and more. Under general supervision in the Engineering Department to do designing of minor construction projects and minor parts of major construction projects of all types and to prepare and maintain related diagrams, maps, and records doing drafting work as required and perform such duties as:
- Prepare simple architectural studies in ink or color;
- Develop the design of minor parts of electrical, mechanical or structural projects and assist in the design of major parts of such projects;
- Develop and prepare project drawings and sets of drawings;
- Make engineering computations as required to check the adequacy of the minor designs;
- Develop illustrations for instruction books and construction standards;
- Assist in the calculating, plotting, computing closure and adjusting of field survey data, computing areas and preparing land maps and records;
- Prepare maps and descriptions to accompany deeds, agreements, and other legal documents;
- Assist in the preparation of engineering studies and reports, making engineering calculations as required;
- Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, specifications, budget requests, authority for expenditure papers, etc.;
- Prepare bills of material for minor projects and assist in their preparation for major projects;
- Occasionally take measurements and other data in the field;
- Guide and check the work of drafting technicians.
Job Qualifications:
- AAS Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering Technology
- Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy
- Satisfactory completion of a validated aptitude testing, as determined by the Company
- Two years experience at the Drafting Technician C level for a total of three to four years experience in drafting; using Microstation
- Knowledge of materials and equipment used in construction;
- Full knowledge of projection view developments, view and scale selection and drawing layout;
- Ability to work with and guide the work of others.
- Must pass validated aptitude test. NOTE 1: Designer A's shall, after a period of two years and after having demonstrated the ability to perform Designer B work in a manner satisfactory to the Company, be promoted to Designer B at the time of the annual Review Board.
NOTE 2: A Designer A can be assigned the duties of a Designer B without upgrade.
$49.35/hr
