About the role

National Grid is hiring multiple Control Room Operators to work on site at our Viking Link Interconnector in Bicker Fen, Lincolnshire.

In this role, reporting to the Control Room Manager, you’ll be part of a dedicated shift team of HVDC Control Room Operators who are responsible for controlling and monitoring the operation of the Viking Link HVDC interconnector connecting the electricity systems of Great Britain and Denmark. Due to the nature of the role there is a requirement to work a shift pattern on a rotational basis which includes night working, weekends and occasional bank holidays.

What you'll do

  • Communicating and coordinating with on-site colleagues who undertake maintenance, investigation and resolution of equipment faults.
  • Ensuring all activities are undertaken in accordance with policies, procedures and safety rules.
  • Working closely with the stakeholders, partners and service providers who support our activities.

What you'll need

We highly value the behaviours, attitudes and skills which will help you to develop and excel in this role. In this case, we’re looking for someone who:

  • Has the ability to perform duties safely on their own, using procedures and without direct supervision.
  • Is naturally inquisitive, with the ability to interpret a range of operational data and draw conclusions on the action to be taken.
  • Has a proactive approach and can utilise taught operating principles to anticipate abnormal and critical conditions not necessarily identified by an alarm.
  • Has experience and confidence in using computer systems to undertake processes and manage data.
  • Is available for occasional travel to other UK and European locations during training and in exceptional operational situations.
  • Is happy to work rotating shift patterns, 24/7, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and holiday periods.

What you'll get

A competitive salary of £55,000 per annum (which includes base salary of £43,315 and a 26% shift allowance)

As well as your base salary, you will receive a market supplement of £3000 paid annually, a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving.
