As Head of Substation Operations for the North East, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across the region’s electricity transmission substations and cable networks. You will lead and develop 12 direct reports and more than 250 engineering and operational colleagues across multi-disciplinary teams, creating a strong safety culture and ensuring the reliable delivery of electricity to homes, businesses and critical services across the North East.
You will hold senior accountability for the 24/7 operation of the electricity transmission network spanning from the Trent Valley to the Scottish border. The role spans all time horizons, from real-time fault response and current-year delivery through to long-term (up to 10-year) strategic planning. You will manage a budget in excess of £100m per year and oversee the delivery of a large portfolio of operational, engineering and construction works. As a visible and inclusive leader, you will work closely with teams, customers and stakeholders, acting as the voice of operations for the North East and playing a key role in delivering a resilient, net zero energy future.
Must haves:
- A degree or equivalent experience in a relevant STEM discipline.
- Proven leadership experience in real-time operational environments, including leading direct reports and large, multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
- A strong commitment to safety leadership and creating a positive, safe working environment.
- Experience of budget and commercial management, including OPEX and CAPEX and delivery of large project portfolios.
- Strong stakeholder and customer engagement skills, with experience of leading teams through change and driving continuous improvement.
Pay and Benefits
- A salary up to £100,000 pa plus up to 40% annual performance bonus & annual salary benchmarking.
