Associate Project Manager

Business Unit:  Strategic Infrastructure
Requisition Number:  9130

About The Role

The Associate EPC Project Manager role is an excellent stepping stone into project management.

You’ll be working on some of the biggest, most exciting projects in green energy, supporting the EPC Project Manager or Lead Project Manager to administer contracts across a portfolio. As you do this you’ll be supported and trained to become an EPC Project Manager yourself.

Based initially at Seaham in the North East, working in the onshore cables team.  You’ll be involved in major transmission and grid reinforcement programmes, including the connection of wind and solar generation and the upgrades needed to meet our Clean Power 2030 ambitions. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to nationally significant projects, engage with OFGEM on regulatory approvals, and help deliver real benefits for communities and society.

This is a highly visible, variable‑based role, offering real exposure to complex delivery environments. You’ll spend regular time on site in Seaham with additional travel across the wider project region as required.

About You

  • A customer-focused mindset, with a commitment to delivering high‑quality outcomes.

  • Knowledge of Health, Safety, and environmental policies, procedures, and best practice.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships.

  • You are a logical problem solver with an eagerness to learn and a hunger to succeed. You are positive and want to contribute, not just in terms of your day-to-day role but to our larger Net Zero aims too. You are committed to a cleaner energy future and highly motivated to make a difference.

  • Ideally you already have an understanding of National Grid and NEC EPC contracts. We’d like you to have engineering, and preferably utilities, experience too.

  • You’ll need a driving licence, the ability to travel as required, and there might be some overnight travel too. There will be some flexibility required to work outside of normal hours, and perhaps most of all, a willingness to do whatever it takes to successfully deliver your projects.

  • HND, ideally in engineering or project management, or equivalent experience.

What You'll Do

  • Acting as an ambassador for safety at all times. As an organisation we are driven by safety. Our industry leading ‘Safe to Say’ policy calls for colleagues to always speak up and take ownership of safety issues.

  • Working with the project team to help drive exceptional safety standards. You will undertake safety leadership tours, sensible monitoring of work activities, and set the standards on projects across the wider business.

  • Using a number of different contracts, including FIDIC, NEC3 and NEC4, you will support your EPC Project Manager to administer EPC contracts across the portfolio.

  • Drafting contractual communications, including the EPC Project Manager’s instructions.

  • Supporting the EPC Project Manager with any other contractual matters, such as reviewing compensation events, issuing instructions, programme acceptance, and payment application reviews.

  • Supporting the EPC Project Manager in successfully managing project budgets and accurately forecasting spend profiles. You will report financial information within required timescales and escalate financial issues when necessary.

  • Reporting financial information such as contractor spend and forecast, internal spend and forecast, contingencies and material purchases.

  • Financial efficiency will be another accountability. You will work with contractors to develop a project’s scope as efficiently as possible.

  • Assisting the EPC Project Manager in successfully identifying, quantifying and managing risks on your projects.

  • Assessing the impact a risk has on timescales, costs and resources.

  • Collating and maintaining an up-to-date risk register and reporting on it on a monthly basis.

  • Supporting the EPC Project Manager in maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders. Communicating with stakeholders in a timely, clear, concise and professional way.

  • Attending meetings and public events, and responding to correspondence and talking to the media as necessary.

What You'll Get

A competitive salary between £47,000 - £56,000 – dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
