Job Purpose
National Grid Damage Prevention Department oversees the protection of our underground Gas & Electric asset. The successful candidate will direct NG contractors to provide location services and other utilities services. In addition, provide an oversight of Third-Party Excavators and other external stakeholders.
Key Accountabilities
- Coordinating with other Company Departments necessary to support Damage Prevention activities. Coordinate the daily activities of contactors performing underground electric and gas facilities locating services
- Develop action plans to educate Third-Party Contractors to follow NYS Code Rule 753 Safe Digging Practices to protect underground electric and gas assets
- Monitor Third-Party Excavators construction sites
- Assure compliance with all Federal, State, Local and Company safety and environmental guidelines. laws and regulations
- Support Damage Prevention initiates
- Experience with GIS, Docuware, CSS
- Experience with Electric and Gas Work Methods and required Operator Qualifications (OQs)
- Respond for all 1st, 2nd and 3rd party damage investigations and prepare timely damage investigation reports.
- Verify the accuracy of contractor invoicing.
- Participate in UDIG-NY meetings to represent the Company.
- Interface with local Public Service Commission staff.
- On-Call Support
Qualifications
- 2-year degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, civil engineering, construction management or 5 years work experience in the Damage Prevention Industry. Supervisory experience preferred.
- Must have knowledge of underground electric and gas facilities locating, gas construction and familiar with NYS Code Rule 753, Protection of Underground Facilities.
- Strong verbal and communication skills include the ability to work in a team atmosphere.
- Ability to read and interpret construction prints, drawings, including GIS prints, and Gas Service Cards.
- Demonstrated strong commitment to worker safety.
- Maintain a non-restricted driver's license.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs
Salary
$112,000 - $131,000 a year
Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation ("DOT") covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA). As such, the Company’s testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.
