About the role
Grain LNG is Europe’s largest liquefied natural gas importation terminal by storage capacity, located on the Isle of Grain in Kent. The terminal plays a critical role in supporting the UK’s energy security by providing substantial regasification, storage, and send out capability which is sufficient to supply 25-30% of Great Britain’s gas demand. As an expanding critical energy asset positioned for the future energy transition, Grain LNG continues to evolve—enhancing operational resilience, embracing new technologies, and shaping its role as a key enabler of the UK’s Net Zero ambitions.
We are currently recruiting for a Commercial Advisor to join our commercial function.
As a Commercial Advisor, you will play a key role in supporting the effective commercial operation of the Grain LNG terminal. You will manage day to day commercial processes associated with key utility agreements—most notably the Power Supply Agreement and Heat Supply Agreement—while also owning relationships with 2–3 of Grain LNG’s long-term capacity holders who operate in global gas and LNG markets.
Critically, you will also form part of the Commercial Operations 24/7 standby team, working remotely from home in an out of hours setting to take calls and monitor commercial operations, acting as liaison on behalf of the business between customers and the terminal’s operations team. Full training is provided and this commitment is financially compensated in addition to the starting salary. Flexibility to provide additional cover as required by the business is essential to support the business and the commercial operations team.
The role ensures that Grain LNG continues to deliver high quality commercial services, maximises revenue, adheres to contractual obligations, and maintains effective customer relationships.
The Commercial Advisor will be capable of determining the correct balance between meeting contractual obligations, whilst delivering an excellent 1st class service to customers.
The role is a hybrid role based on site at the Isle of Grain site, Initially onsite at least 4 days per week until full training has completed, reducing to a minimum of 3 days or as required by the business. Additional flexible working is available on a case-by-case basis; includes participation in 24/7 Commercial Operations standby rota (approximately 1 week in 4, with paid compensation)
What you'll do
- Support the daily commercial processes associated with the Power Contract and Heat Supply Agreement, ensuring Grain LNG meets all its contractual obligations.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders (Commercial Operations, Operations, Finance, Regulatory) to ensure accurate metering, invoicing inputs, usage data, and contract performance outputs are delivered on time.
- Maintain auditable records, process logs, trackers and reporting tools to ensure compliance and transparency.
- Assist in periodic contract reviews, performance assessments, and change control/amendment processes.
- Act as primary commercial point of contact for 2–3 long term capacity holders.
- Build strong, proactive relationships with customers to support excellent service delivery.
- Ensure contractual obligations (e.g., nominations, scheduling processes, notices, consultations, service variations) are met and well communicated.
- Identify opportunities to enhance customer satisfaction, streamline interactions, or address emerging commercial and contractual risks.
- Participate in the Commercial Operations standby rota (approx. 1 week in every 4)
- Provide timely and effective responses to customer queries, operational events, system alarms, or required commercial actions outside business hours.
- Represent the Commercial team in supporting operational continuity, incident response, and urgent customer communications.
- Offer flexibility to provide additional cover during periods of leave, sickness or exceptional operational requirements.
- Support internal governance processes, audits, KPI reporting and record-keeping and financial billing to customers.
- Contribute to annual activities such as tariff updates, budget inputs, and system/process reviews.
- Provide support to new contract or service implementations, including change proposals or regulatory consultations.
- Work collaboratively across Commercial, Operations, Finance and Regulatory functions to support the delivery of business objectives.
What you'll need
- Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple processes, deadlines, and customer interactions effectively.
- Proven attention to detail, especially within contractual, financial or operational data environments.
- Ability to remain calm and decisive during fast moving or out of hours operational events.
- Customer focused mindset with ability to build strong working relationships.
- Advanced Excel user
- License to drive in the UK and use of own car to travel to the terminal
- Experience in the UK energy industry (gas, power, utilities, system operations, energy trading, asset operations or related fields).
- Awareness of the UK energy system (power markets, balancing, metering flows, heat/utility supply frameworks, capacity services, etc.)
- Prior experience in contract management, commercial operations, regulatory compliance or similar fields.
- BA or BSC qualified, although demonstrable relevant work experience will offer greater weighting to candidates.
What you'll get
A competitive salary between £48,000-£57,000 per annum – dependent on capability.
