Operational Planning Engineer

This role places you at the heart of the UK’s transition to Net Zero, enabling the safe and timely delivery of critical maintenance and major electricity transmission projects. You’ll shape the 0–1 Year Operational Plan for a complex regional network, helping ensure reliable power for communities across the Midlands and East Anglia. Your work will have real, visible impact, supported by collaboration with skilled teams and ongoing professional development, including support towards IET registration.

As an Operational Planning Engineer, you’ll work at the heart of our Electricity Transmission business, planning and coordinating engineering activities that keep the network safe, reliable, and future-ready. You’ll lead the delivery of our current year resource plan, balancing time-critical maintenance with major infrastructure programmes. Using data-led insight, sound engineering judgement, and strong collaboration, you’ll help ensure the right work is delivered at the right time.

This role is based out of Bramford Substation, however this role does require regular travel across the East Anglia region. We encourage a hybrid approach to working and are happy to discuss any additional flexibility that may support your individual needs. A job requirement vehicle is provided to support business travel associated with the role.

What you’ll be doing

• Analyse data to identify risks, opportunities, and resource requirements.
• Work with operational teams and stakeholders to develop achievable plans.
• Resolve planning issues and find practical solutions to delivery challenges.
• Coordinate planning meetings, track actions, and manage key timelines.
• Monitor regional KPIs and support the delivery of performance targets.
• Drive continuous improvement and promote a high-performance culture.

Requirements:

• Qualified to ONC / NVQ Level 3 (or above) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• Ability to analyse complex data and translate findings into practical, deliverable plans.
• Confident communicator with strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
• A forward-thinking approach to problem solving, with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel throughout the region.
• Skilled in leading meetings and workshops, driving accountability and delivering successful outcomes.

Desirable:

• Degree qualification in Engineering or a related discipline.
• Confident decision-maker with the ability to prioritise and adapt in a dynamic operational environment.
• Experienced planner with a background in utilities, infrastructure, energy, or logistics operations.
• Knowledge of asset management practices and their application to operational performance and maintenance planning.

What You'll Get:

£47,442 - £54,090 dependent on experience.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance, Job Requirement Car and competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
