OMU Engineer

We’re seeking a Site Manager to drive the success of our Oil Management Unit (OMU), delivering vital operations that keep the electricity transmission network running reliably. This role is based at our site in Dartford; your daily commute should be within 60 mins of site.
In this pivotal role, you’ll oversee a skilled team of 10 professionals, including LGV drivers, plant operatives, and waste treatment specialists. You’ll be responsible for managing complex oil handling projects within substation environments, ensuring high standards of safety, environmental protection, and quality assurance. You’ll create a cohesive team culture, inspire performance, and maintain compliance with waste permits, Technically Competent Manager (TCM) requirements, and WAMITAB qualifications.

What You'll Do
- Create a safety culture and develop assurance of procedural compliance and national consistency – Carry out safety audits / site inspections.
- Ensure delivery of operational tasks, to time and budget for zones ensuring year-on-year improvement in productivity and utilisation. Review and report on performance against budget with OMU Manager.
- Set and monitor performance objectives and role competence for OMU staff.
- Act as SPOC for Environmental Agency for Waste Management Compliance – Ensure all quarterly and annual reporting is completed in a timely manner.
- Ensure all QA, Safety and environmental procedures and document audits are planned and carried out in a timely manner.
- COTC permit holder duties
- Set responsibilities for setting to work through Mobile Technicians and Operators.
- Hold vocational drivers CPC and ensure OMU compliance all operator’s licence conditions (HGV Ops).
- Support the implementation of performance excellence throughout the Oil Management Unit.
What You'll Have
- Level 4 Certificate of Technical Competence - Waste Management Operations (Managing Treatment of Hazardous Waste) or Minimum HNC or equivalent in an engineering discipline, preferably electrical engineering
- Certificate in Management Studies, would be of advantage
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent qualification
- Full driving licence
- Sound understanding of substations and HV equipment. Demonstration of experience in managing statutory and environmental obligations.
- Technical knowledge relating to the electrical and safety aspects of substation plant and equipment.
- Environmental knowledge in respect of day-to-day duties, together with proven ability to respond to emergency situations.
- Planning or other non-field-based experience preferred.
- Project delivery experience.
