Lead Transmission Engineer - OHL Design Quality
We’re looking for a passionate Lead Transmission Engineer – OHL Design Quality to join our Asset Operations Team!
The Lead Transmission Engineer – OHL Design Quality provides senior asset owner leadership and technical authority across the Electricity Transmission Overhead Line portfolio. The role leads a national team of Transmission Engineers to ensure designs are safe, operable, maintainable, and compliant across the full asset lifecycle. The individual is accountable for embedding operation and maintenance requirements into optioneering and design throughout the project lifecycle, acting as the primary asset owner interface for OHL design quality. They mitigate risk, protect asset owner intent, and ensure the delivery of adoptable, standard-compliant outcomes.
Additionally, the role translates operational learning and asset expertise into consistent, high‑quality design assurance and drives continuous improvement across the portfolio.

What You'll Do
- Lead and influence the design of new and upgraded overhead line assets, shaping solutions from early concept through to delivery.
- Act as the key link between operations and project teams, ensuring designs are practical, maintainable and ready for real-world use.
- Set the standard for design quality, driving solutions that are safe, efficient and optimised for whole life performance.
- Provide expert challenge and make critical decisions to eliminate high risk or non-viable designs before they progress.
- Champion early engagement so operations are fully prepared for new assets, including maintenance strategies, training and support.
- Act as the technical authority on behalf of the Asset Owner when OHL defects arise within OHL projects.
- Use operational insight, defect trends and real asset performance to continuously improve future designs and engineering standards.
- Lead, mentor and develop a team of Transmission Engineers, within your area of discipline, building capability and ensuring strong technical leadership across OHL projects.
What You'll Have
- Minimum HNC in an Engineering Discipline.
- NEBOSH Certificate.
- Asset Management Qualification (IAM) and or relevant experience.
- Project Fundamental / Management Qualification (APM) and or relevant experience.
- Extensive knowledge, experience and technical know-how of the assets ET OHL operate and maintains.
- Project (preferably OHL related) / project team interface understanding and or experience.
- Good understanding of project network and design process involved in OHL projects.
- Knowledge of expected quality standards of the OHL network and its components.
- Understanding and practical application of all relevant OHL Technical Specifications, Technical Guidance Notes and Electricity Transmission Business Procedures.
- Knowledge of CDM regulations and the roles that are encompassed within them and how that applies to OHL projects.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability and confidence to communicate, present and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
- A drive and enthusiasm for continuous improvement and experience of change management.
- Motivates others through own example.
- Personally committed to finding new ways of working in conjunction with others to achieve business goals.
- Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills.

What You'll Get
Up to £66,000 dependent on experience.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a Market Supplement of £3000 per annum, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
