National Grid is hiring a Supervisor for our Work Support Department in Northborough, MA. This is an in-office position.

 

National Grid is seeking a Supervisor for the Work Support Department. This in-office position is responsible for leading assigned clerical and support services personnel to ensure work is planned, scheduled, coordinated, processed, and completed accurately, efficiently, and in alignment with departmental and company requirements.

 

The role supports daily operations across construction, field operations, mark-out, contractor, and internal support functions. The Supervisor will provide direction, coaching, performance oversight, and process support while helping maintain reliable service, timely closeout of work, accurate processing, and strong team performance.

Job Purpose

The Supervisor, Work Support provides daily supervision, coordination, and planning for assigned clerical personnel and support services functions. This position ensures that administrative, operational, and financial closeout activities are completed accurately and on time, while supporting field and construction operations, compliance requirements, customer commitments, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assign, plan, schedule, coordinate, and audit daily activities for support services personnel.
  • Supervise a workforce that may include day, night, and overtime coverage based on operational needs.
  • Monitor work order closeouts to ensure work is received, updated, closed, and progressed to financial closeout in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Facilitate timely and accurate processing of timesheets, payroll-related information, and other administrative requirements.
  • Provide supervision, coaching, training, performance feedback, and corrective guidance to clerical staff to support efficiency and accountability.
  • Assist with scheduling, tracking, and reporting for Work Support activities, including management reporting and operational updates.
  • Monitor team performance, attendance, work quality, and adherence to standards; address issues timely and consistently.
  • Review work completed by others and provide technical guidance to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with established processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve business processes, reduce delays, strengthen controls, and improve service delivery.
  • Execute instructions and requests, organize resources, and make appropriate arrangements to ensure work is completed efficiently and in line with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Build a team environment by setting clear expectations, promoting initiative, and encouraging collaboration and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote team effectiveness by communicating expectations, soliciting input, delegating responsibilities, and providing support and structure.
  • Strong planning, organizing, and prioritization skills required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of field operations systems and related technologies preferred, such as MAXIMO and SAP.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships across a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of labor relations, contract interpretation, issue resolution, grievance handling, and corrective action processes preferred.
  • Ability to support emergency response responsibilities and company operations when called upon.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Salary

$80,000 - $93,000 a year
