National Grid is hiring a Group Health and Wellbeing Manager (US). This hybrid role can sit in our Northborough MA, Waltham MA, Syracuse NY or Brooklyn NY location. 

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Group Head of Health and Wellbeing, the Health and Wellbeing Manager (US) contributes to the development, implementation, and management of a comprehensive Group health and wellbeing programme to improve employee health and wellbeing for National Grid. The job holder is responsible for the promotion, implementation, and evaluation of these programs across the US, whilst also working with the Group team to deliver key strategic workstreams.

Key Accountabilities

  • Act as a Group subject matter expert on occupational health and wellbeing for National Grid.
  • Provide leadership and guidance on strategic health and wellbeing matters and support our business units and functions in managing their associated risks.
  • Continuously monitor US policy, legislative and other developments relevant to occupational health and wellbeing at work, advising on such to ensure National Grid’s US businesses are compliant.
  • Lead on the management, development and promotion of health and wellbeing policies, standards, and high-level procedures to ensure they meet legislative requirements, business needs, and add value.
  • Responsible for the planning, implementation, awareness building, management, and evaluation of a comprehensive evidenced based wellness programme to improve employee health and wellbeing, including communication strategy to ensure employee engagement, providing tools that empower employees to make informed lifestyle decisions.
  • Work collaboratively with People & Culture and Benefits groups to integrate the wellness program with medical plans and develop prevention and intervention strategies that address chronic disease and health risks for employees and their families, and ensure employee benefits practices are compliant with health policies (e.g. Private medical provision etc.).
  • Conduct research and analysis on benefit and wellness initiatives to assess their effectiveness, including reviews of aggregate employee health data to ensure the program is relevant to employee health needs and drives efficiencies within the wider business.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the UK and US to develop high level health policy initiatives through the use of pilots and service providers in order to test their validity across the business.
  • Deliver periodic wellness campaigns that address identified key risk areas and create engagement across diverse stakeholder networks.
  • Manage the day-to-day relationship with current health contract service providers, including negotiation, interpretation and application of established contractual agreements and/or service level agreements to ensure adherence to standards and best outcomes for National Grid.
  • Keep informed of best practice and research through external networking and professional development, related to the management of health and wellbeing in the workplace and look to adopt and deliver new and innovative health and wellbeing approaches. 
  • Lead on the development and maintenance of a range of measures and KPIs that inform our performance in managing health and wellbeing. 
  • Lead on writing and/or contributing to health and wellbeing related Board and Executive Committee papers.
  • Where required, act as the health and wellbeing lead in supporting audit and compliance activities in relation to Group health and wellbeing standards.
  • Represent National Grid’s Health and Wellbeing Team at external events as required and co-ordinate, develop, and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Advise National Grid on highly specialist topics when required and support pathways available.
  • Represent National Grid on business-led senior national advisory groups where appropriate.
  • Identify opportunities to establish relationships with employee resources groups (ERGs) that improve the level of adoption of health and wellbeing strategies across the organisation. 

 

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences or similar health and safety related majors or 7+ years of equivalent experience.
  • Passionate about health and wellbeing, with high levels of enthusiasm and drive to achieve results. 
  • Relevant experience working within complex organisations, interacting with key stakeholders, developing and implementing proactive health and wellbeing programme and policies, designed to positively impact the organisation and demonstrating success.
  • Experience of delivering personal objectives as part of a wider health strategy while working collaboratively within a broader team of Health and Wellbeing leads.
  • Experience of engaging and influencing at all levels including senior and line management, employee representatives, other specialist support and employees in designing and adopting new processes, behaviour change, and lifestyle improvements related to health and wellbeing.
  • Demonstrates the ability to seek innovative approaches to the management of health and wellbeing risks and embed them within an organisation.
  • Experience and understanding of evaluating, analysing, and reviewing health and wellbeing data and the effectiveness of programmes to evidence the impact on personal and business performance.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate articulately at all levels, verbally and written.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of health and wellbeing practices, policies and legislative/regulatory issues affecting the industry.
  • Demonstrates the ability to network internally and externally and develop successful, long-lasting business relationships.

 

Salary

New England MA $134,000 - $158,000 a year

Downstate NY $145, 000 - $170,000 a year

Upstate NY $120,000 - $141,000 a year
