National Grid is hiring a US Director, UK Senior Manager, Capital Project Delivery for Massachusetts. This is a Hybrid Role - Must live within a commutable distance to one of our locations

Job Purpose

To provide leadership and clear direction for the Project Management & Construction (PM&C) In-House Substation (IHC), D-Line Contracting, Civil Contracting, and Outsourced Substation Construction teams across New England. Responsible for delivering a consistent approach to managing safety and reducing risk to ensure projects are delivered on time and within cost. Create an inclusive environment to build and support a team which operates to the highest standards of safety, health, environmental, security, quality and efficiency on construction projects.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to the IHC, D-Line, Civil, and Substation Construction teams, responsible for the delivery of capital projects and programs across New England
  • Drive safety, health, environmental, technical and delivery performance utilizing key performance indicators and scorecard
  • Develop and execute a roadmap for the organization to be ready to execute a three fold growth in capital investments over the next 5-10 years.
  • Support the VP of PM&C in establishing an inclusive team that fully supports the business strategy, shares best practices, and demonstrates collaborative relationships with peers
  • Develop, grow and manage long-term partnering relationships with internal and external union, and contractor leadership teams aimed at aligning National Grid’s objectives and visions
  • Work closely with senior leadership to establish and implement strategic objectives, ensuring organizational objectives successfully
  • Recruit, motivate, develop, and retain the D-Line, Civil, and Substation Construction teams, by maximizing flexibility, effectiveness, and promoting positive teamwork and cultural change
  • Maintain operating budgets and target resource allocations to ensure timely and cost-effective achievement of all assigned work in line with department objectives
  • Assure all construction activities meet regulatory, environmental, legal, and internal policies
  • Focus on continuous improvement techniques to challenge existing processes and continuously seek ways to drive efficiencies
  • Work with process owners and peer Directors to identify and implement business process improvements and best practices enterprise wide in a consistent manner throughout the global lines of business and remain abreast of changing technologies and industry best practices through upskilling the department
  • Provide leadership, direction and oversight of the Restoration Crew Supervisor (RCS) program and ensure appropriate resourcing levels are maintained and support provided to local operation leadership.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, construction standards, work methods, safety requirements and environmental procedures.
  • A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience of 10+ years of construction management experience in either the Civil, Distribution, or Substation disciplines
  • Successful experience and strong commitment to safety, environmental, quality, service performance, and delivery of construction projects
  • Strong and successful record in providing inclusive leadership with planning and executing ability
  • Able to manage in an evolving environment of change and volatility to a successful outcome
  • Proven ability to bring creative and innovative operational and construction approaches to the business with a focus on safe execution
  • Experienced in managing relationships with large teams, internal workforce, and contractors
  • Understanding of the requirements to deliver a portfolio of complex projects
  • Ability to build positive relationships and collaborate within all levels of an organization
  • Strong skills in negotiations, presentation, construction management, and communication
  • Strong PC and business applications knowledge to facilitate full leveraging of technology solutions in the construction work environment
