National Grid is hiring a Technical Inspector, Gas Quality Assurance. This a field/hybrid role that can sit in either our Syracuse NY, Fulton NY or New Hartford location, but requires travel in the field.
Job Purpose
Support the Quality Assurance program through field observations, inspections, and record reviews designed to promote safe, reliable, and compliant gas operations. Working under the guidance of Senior, Lead, and Principal Inspectors, the Technical Inspector will assist in verifying compliance with regulatory requirements, company procedures, and established work methods while developing the technical knowledge and skills necessary for advancement within the Quality Assurance organization
Key Accountabilities
- Conduct live and post field observations and inspections of gas construction, maintenance, and operational activities to verify compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies, and approved work methods.
- Assist in the execution of regional High-Risk inspections and annual work plans under the direction of senior team members.
- Complete inspection reports accurately and in a timely manner, documenting observations, identifying trends, improving processes, and strengthen pipeline safety performance.
- Participate in department training activities, safety initiatives, and operational meetings to expand technical knowledge and understanding of gas operations.
- Build productive working relationships with field personnel, supervisors, contractors, and internal stakeholders while promoting a positive safety and compliance culture.
- Continuously develop knowledge of federal, state, and company requirements governing gas operations and quality assurance activities.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to learn and apply technical procedures, regulations, and company policies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to travel throughout our regional service territory.
- Ability to safely perform field inspection activities, including entering and exiting excavations and traversing active construction sites.
Preferred
- Associate or higher degree in engineering, technical discipline, related field, or equivalent experience
- Experience in gas operations, utility construction, quality assurance, field inspection, safety, compliance, or related operational disciplines.
- Knowledge of pipeline safety regulations, Operator Qualification programs, or utility industry work practices.
Salary
$70,000 - $82,000 a year
