Job Purpose
As Manager for the Major Projects Contractor Safety, you will be responsible for managing a group of Supervisors providing oversite and mentorship to the NY Electric Major Projects Contractors team along with providing additional direction and support to the associated Major Projects Contractor field crews. You will work to ensure the safety compliance of our Major Projects Contractors by implementing and maintaining a robust safety culture. This position carries a large amount of responsibility with a primary focus on Major Projects Contractor support and safety. You will work closely with Contracted and Represented field personnel and Field Safety and develop positive professional relationships with all levels of management and contractors during all phases of Climate Leadership and Climate Protection Act (“CLCPA”) projects.
Key Accountabilities
- Promote the philosophy of a safe team working within the Major Projects Contractor space, to ensure Contractors are achieving their operational goals while maintaining all Contractor requirements and working safely.
- Lead, motivate and develop a professional team.
- Prioritize work and allocate resources to deliver CLCPA activities in line with service quality standards and expectations and customer/business objectives.
- Participate in and often lead Major Projects Contractor group meetings, including monthly CLCPA calls.
- Compile, monitor, and manage project data.
- Draft reports and presentations for management and leadership.
- Understanding of project scopes and workplans to gauge safety-related risks and hazards to effectively prioritize supervision and field visits.
- Develop and manage ongoing relationships with CLCPA Contractors’ internal and external project managers to identify and deliver solutions that benefit National Grid.
- Provides the right environment for their team to canvass and champion better or new ways of doing things to achieve business objectives
- Lead and participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and Incident Analyses (IA) in partnership with NY Electric Transmission, Substation, Distribution Line, and Civil Construction and NY Major Projects.
- Able to influence and build relationships at senior levels, internally and externally to get things done and improve business relationships.
- Determine and help set performance objectives and goals for Supervisors within this group.
- Provides large-scale technical guidance, support, and coaching to others to share knowledge and develop technical understanding within discipline.
- Transfers knowledge across department and other business sectors within and outside of National Grid.
- Able to interpret and adapt relevant industry best practices, standards, and legislation for the benefit on the Company.
- Contributes broadly to achievement of company, department, and team objectives with direction of multi-functional teams on special initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in related discipline is preferred.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of operational experience in the Electrical Utility field or 3-5 years of safety experience where safety was at least 90% of the job duties.
- At least 4 years of progressive experience in a role where managing employees or contractors was 90% of job responsibility/accountability.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associated Safety Professional (ASP), Graduate Safety Professional (GSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) Certification preferred. Will consider other Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) certifications.
- Excellent public speaking, training, and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills required.
- Ability to compile, analyze, report, and present project data to monitor performance, recognize trends, and identify process improvement opportunities.
- Ability to reference, understand, apply, and adhere to contract documents.
- Critical thinking skills with the ability to quickly make decisions without having all the information and with little to no outside guidance.
- Strong organization and communication skills with an attention to detail.
- Must be self-starter with strong work ethic, desire to learn and develop, and ability to set and follow a daily/weekly schedule.
- Computer proficiency is essential.
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record is required.

Salary: $139,000 - $163,000
This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
