Job Purpose
The Construction Planner is responsible for efficiently planning and scheduling construction work in a cost-effective manner, ensuring alignment with the annual work plan while meeting established milestones, customer expectations, and regulatory requirements. This role involves strategically managing the Electric Distribution portfolio by optimizing workforce allocation, enhancing performance, geographic locations, and schedule availability.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop and maintain daily and weekly schedules for the New York Overhead, Underground, and Substation field workforce.
- Collaborate with resource planning to monitor resource levels, capacity forecasts, productivity, and project plan progress to make informed resource recommendations and analyze trends.
- Facilitate weekly scheduling meetings with electric operations to ensure alignment among stakeholders.
- Review and order materials to guarantee availability according to job specifications, coordinating deliveries with Inventory Management.
- Implement best practices in resource management to ensure compliance with National Grid, union policies, and regulatory standards for all work and safety protocols.
- Prioritize and monitor work progress through each phase of construction.
- Foster and maintain strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Exhibit a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with stakeholders to solve problems in a positive and collaborative manner.
- Monitor the status of required permits, licenses, and land rights.
- Keep team members and stakeholders informed and updated on project progress and developments.
- Promote a culture of efficiency, teamwork, collaboration, and efficient resource utilization across the department and support groups.
- Collaborate with designers, job owners, warehouse and material management, resource planning, operation supervisors, engineering, and Right of Way teams.
Qualifications
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
- An ability to manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong Influencing and negotiating skills to achieve desired outcomes.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Capacity to quickly and effectively develop working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
Required:
- A minimum of 2-4 years of related experience is required.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong planning skills, with the ability to re-prioritize assignments on demand.
- Understands of construction activities, including the ability to interpret design sketches.
- Knowledge of various job types and associated scope of work.
- Understanding resource levels and crew compositions.
- Ability to travel to divisional offices and other locations as required,
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
- Ability to support activities during storm (weather) emergencies is required.
Preferred:
- Associate degree in an engineering or business-related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Proficient in the use of STORMS, SAP, Microsoft Office Suite, ARM, and P6 Team Member.
- Familiarity with the lifecycle of a job from customer initiation through project completion.
Salary
$84,000 - $98,000 a year
