We are currently recruiting for an Associate Planner to support the Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1) project, spanning from Torness in East Lothian, Scotland to Hawthorn Pit in County Durham.
This role offers hybrid working with travel to sites across County Durham and Edinburgh required. We’re happy to discuss flexible working arrangements to help make this role work for you.
Job Purpose
EGL1 is a two-gigawatt high voltage direct current (HVDC) connection forming a critical part of the UK’s future energy infrastructure. This multi-billion-pound project is being delivered through a joint venture between SP Energy Networks and National Grid Electricity Transmission.
As an Associate Planner, you will support programme development, project delivery, progress reporting, and change assessment. You’ll work closely with experienced planners and project teams, building your expertise in planning tools such as Primavera P6 and gaining exposure to major infrastructure delivery. This role is ideal for someone looking to develop their planning career in a dynamic, collaborative environment, with opportunities for funded professional development and hands-on experience.
What You'll Do
- Support construction planning activities, including preparing schedules, updating plans, and gathering project data
- Assist in maintaining end-to-end planning processes to ensure safe, on-time project delivery
- Contribute to early-stage programme development, supporting timeline creation and updates
- Help ensure programme data aligns with monthly reporting cycles and is accurate and up to date
- Support progress tracking, critical path analysis, and identification of early risk indicators
- Collaborate with internal teams, joint venture partners, and contractors to maintain aligned project schedules
- Assist in planning workshops to promote cross-team collaboration and programme alignment
- Support project leads with logically linked programme planning and highlight potential impacts
- Ensure key risks to milestones and critical path are identified early and communicated effectively
- Provide insights and basic recommendations to support decision-making by Project Managers
- Review contractor programme submissions for compliance with contractual requirements and flag any gaps
- Contribute ideas to improve planning processes while learning best-practice techniques from experienced colleagues
About You
We’re looking for someone with a proactive mindset and a strong willingness to learn and develop.
You’ll ideally have:
- Experience using Primavera P6
- Some exposure to planning and project delivery
- Experience working with cross-functional teams
- Knowledge of NEC/FIDIC contract environments (desirable)
- Strong Microsoft Office skills.
- Good organisational skills to manage data, documentation, and planning information
- An understanding of (or interest in learning) National Grid’s operational processes and standards
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively

A competitive salary between £42,781 up to £50,000 dependent on capability.
