Our Gridtern Program provides current college students the ability to gain practical experience within the energy industry. Your summer will begin on Monday, June 15, 2026, and will be filled with meaningful work experiences, professional development, networking opportunities, community involvement, and most importantly, have fun!

Available Roles

NGV Corporate Affairs – Stakeholder Engagement (Melville, NY) 

Our National Grid Ventures (NGV) – Stakeholder Engagement team leads the forefront work of our clean energy transition. This team operates in competitive energy markets across the UK and US, developing, operating, and investing in large-scale clean energy infrastructures to accelerate our society's drive towards net zero while at the same time helping to maintain a security of supply for today. In addition, this team assists our National Grid Ventures - US Business by working closely with communities, business leaders, economic development organizations, environmental justice groups, environmental organizations and labor teams to support the energy future for our existing projects and new business development.    

 

As a Gridtern, you will participate in both in-person and virtual events and meetings, providing summaries; tracking stakeholder sentiment; sharing information with the NGV Corporate Affairs team; and supporting NGV engagement events such as employee volunteering and conference assistance. Additionally, you will help develop slide decks for internal and external audiences while gaining a deeper understanding of the energy industry and NGV's business.

Investment Governance and Decision Analytics (Melville, NY) 

Our Investment Governance and Decision Analytics team is responsible for organizing, developing, and analyzing our organization’s 10 and 20-year capital plans. This team oversees the sanction, closure, and DOA compliance process, while Rate Case Development & Support works closely with the Investment Planning and Management group to provide historical data that supports the capital plan and shares details pertaining to the rate case. In partnership with Copperleaf, they also manage capital assets within the Copperleaf tool – establishing risk values for capital programs and projects while optimizing them to meet budget constraints.  
  

As a Gridtern, you will contribute to the 10-year capital planning database in Copperleaf C55. In this role, you will learn the C55 project management system and create reports in Excel and Power BI. You will also support additional projects related to capital plan development and the New York State rate case, gaining exposure to both planning and regulatory processes.  

What You'll Need

  • Availability to start on the program start date, June 15, 2026, and work full-time (40 hours a week) for the duration of the summer 
  • Must be registered as a full-time student and continue your education full-time through the Fall 2026 semester 
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree 
  • Majoring in Government, International Relations, Public Policy, Sustainability, Communications, Pre-Law, Environmental Studies, Human Resources, Business Administrations or related majors. 
  • Have accumulated 18 or more credits and be at least 18 years of age  
  • Possess work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (including CPT & OPT) 
  • Some Gridtern positions will require a valid US Driver’s license with a safe driving history that complies with National Grid’s Safe Driver policy. This qualification will be specified in the department specific Gridtern role(s) descriptions at point of interview

Salary Range
$22.00-$28.00 an hour

 

Candidates will be assessed and provided offers based on major, degree type, and class year. Our Gridtern Program does not offer relocation, housing assistance, or public transportation reimbursement for Gridterns; however, we can provide a list of resources to utilize in making your arrangements.

 

Please note that as a Gridtern, you must reside within our existing footprint, which includes Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont. You must also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to your assigned primary office.
