Job Purpose

The SOP Coordinator oversees the System Operating Procedure process within the New York Gas Control Center. This role provides final approval for SOPs and makes daily operational decisions that support the safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to National Grid’s customers. The SOP Coordinator serves as a Control Center subject matter expert and acts as the primary liaison between Field Operations and Gas Control. This position reports to the office 5 days per week. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Administer the SOP process to support the safe and reliable delivery of gas service across National Grid’s New York Gas Transmission and Distribution systems. 
  • Review planned SOP work on the natural gas transmission and distribution systems and provide final approval as appropriate. 
  • Coordinate daily project execution between Field Operations and Control Center Operations. 
  • Validate proper procedural execution of all SOPs. 
  • Conduct regular SOP field observations at job sites. 
  • Serve as the SOP subject matter expert within the Control Center. 
  • Act as the primary Control Center point of contact for Construction and Field Operations personnel. 
  • Train Gas System Operators, field personnel, and Engineering teams on the safe drafting, review, and execution of SOPs. 
  • Support resolution of SOP system issues to help ensure 24/7 field access to the operating system. 
  • Participate in ongoing training within the Control Center and at field locations. 
  • Direct field operations during restoration activities resulting from damages and abnormal operating conditions. 
  • Maintain Gas System Operator qualifications required to operate the gas system. 
  • Travel periodically within the service territory as required. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in an Engineering field preferred, or a minimum of 3 years of experience in a utility industry 
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new concepts, understand complex technical processes, and effectively coordinate cross-functional initiatives. 
  • Ability to develop and apply knowledge of internal Gas Work Methods and related business processes preferred 
  • Working knowledge of gas operations, including work methods, industry standards, and operating procedures preferred 
  • Proficiency in utilizing ESRI mapping software and related geospatial applications preferred 
  • Experience using Synergi Gas modeling software or the ability to learn and apply gas modeling tools as required preferred 
  • Strong computer proficiency, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite and other standard Windows-based applications

$107k - $125k a year
