We are now recruiting for a VP, Reward - Executive Pay, Share Plans, and Mobility, to lead these areas within our Global Reward Centre of Excellence (COE).
Job purpose
The role is a key position on the Reward Leadership Team, and also sits on the People Function Extended Leadership Group. The person will lead on strategic projects across the Reward COE and People Function, acting as a deputy to the Group Head of Reward when required.
The role will lead the executive pay, share plans, and global mobility area within the Global Reward COE, acting as the product owner for executive reward frameworks, policies, and programmes at group level.
The person in post will be accountable for the design, governance, and lifecycle management of senior leader compensation, impacting over 250 senior leaders globally, including at board and executive level, aligning with business strategy, regulatory requirements, and market competitiveness. The successful applicant will also support the Group Head of Reward in the effective operation of the Remuneration Committee, including board engagement, governance, and regulatory disclosures.
Key accountabilities
- Act as Product Owner for executive pay, share plans, and mobility programmes, ensuring clear governance, scalability, and alignment with corporate strategy
- Own the design and delivery of executive reward frameworks, including salary, annual incentives, long-term incentive plans, retention awards, and mobility policies
- Lead the end-to-end Remuneration Committee cycle, including forward planning, preparation of papers, and stakeholder alignment
- Support the CEO, People & Remuneration Committee Chair, and Company Chair in preparation for AGM and shareholder engagement
- Own all regulatory reporting and disclosures related to executive compensation, including the Directors’ Remuneration Report and Policy, and UK, New England, and New York regulatory requirements
- Ensure compliance with global regulatory frameworks and evolving governance expectations
- Provide governance and oversight for all executive compensation decisions
- Lead or support complex and high-risk compensation negotiations in partnership with Employee Relations, Legal, and senior stakeholders
- Provide thought leadership on HR, reward, and corporate governance, leveraging external networks and market insights
- Represent National Grid in external forums
- Drive innovation and efficiency across executive reward programmes
Candidate profile
- Strong experience in large, complex, blue-chip organisations operating internationally
- Deep expertise in executive compensation design and governance, in the UK and the US
- Good level of understanding of corporate governance and the regulatory landscape
- A track record of working with Remuneration Committees and senior leaders
- The potential to be a long-term successor to the Group Head of Reward

Location: the role will be based in London, with the person on-site around 2-3 days per week on average.
Salary: competitive base salary plus commensurate benefits.
