An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Regulatory Funding & Strategy Manager to join our team on a Full Time, Permanent basis!

You will be joining our busy, growing Regulation team in National Grid Electricity Transmission, right at the heart of National Grid’s work in ensuring that our network is ready for the future. This is an exciting role which will help shape the future of the GB energy sector at a vital phase in our transition to net zero! 

What you'll do

Responsible for helping National Grid navigate the regulatory and policy landscape, building strong relationships with our key stakeholders and ultimately securing regulatory approval for our major investments.  

In particular, lead regulatory engagement on the growing pipeline of nationally significant demand connections, including EV battery plants and AI data centres. This will require close collaboration with DESNZ and Ofgem to shape the government and regulatory policy needed to enable timely delivery of these investments.  

This will involve: 

Providing regulatory expertise to National Grid colleagues: 

  • You will use your knowledge of the regulatory framework to provide ongoing guidance and challenge to National Grid colleagues, helping to shape our emerging network investments. 
  • Advise in particular on regulatory considerations for strategic demand connections and support the development of strategic demand policy.  
  • Identify suitable regulatory mechanisms for future submissions, giving our business the confidence to progress our major projects. 
  • Advocate for the interests of current and future consumers throughout a project’s development, helping to align our investments with the regulatory environment  right from the very start. 

 

Managing key stakeholder relationships:  

  • Engage proactively with Government and Ofgem to support the development and implementation of strategic demand policy.   
  • Lead all regulatory engagement in relation to the projects you are responsible for, including early-stage proactive engagement with Ofgem as well as more detailed engagement closer to submission.  
  • Build and maintain constructive partnerships with key stakeholders, including Ofgem, the NESO and relevant DNOs. 
  • Maintain working relationships with key internal stakeholders, including technical experts (e.g., engineers), group regulatory strategy and public affairs colleagues. 

 

Securing the regulatory funding we need to deliver our major investments:

  • Work strategically to identify any emerging portfolio-level funding risks and opportunities for National Grid.  
  • Prepare high-quality regulatory submissions, clearly explaining our rationale for a given investment and demonstrating how it is in the interests of consumers. 
  • Support National Grid colleagues communicate complex, technical information clearly and concisely. 
  • Coordinate technical input from a range of stakeholders and drive timely delivery of effective regulatory engagement.  

What you'll have

  • Experience in energy policy or regulation, with understanding of the GB energy sector, its regulatory framework and our key stakeholders. 
  • Written and verbal communication skills, with significant experience of drafting complex submissions to key decision-makers. 
  • Stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills, with the ability to quickly develop and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of colleagues. 
  • An open, pragmatic mindset, confident in tackling new or unexpected challenges and comfortable with ambiguity. 
  • Results oriented, able to manage timely delivery of complex projects, with a high level of attention to detail. 
  • Commercial awareness, with a good understanding of commercial value and an ability to rapidly understand commercial value drivers in a new context. 
  • Willing to learn about the transmission system, as needed.  
  • Degree level in a relevant discipline, or have an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.  

 

What you'll get

A competitive salary of £64,000 - £76,000 per annum dependent on capability and experience.
