As an Insurance Adviser, you’ll play a vital role in supporting National Grid’s strategic ambitions by delivering expert insurance, claims, and risk management advice—particularly across major infrastructure projects in the UK and Europe. You’ll work closely with colleagues across the Group Insurance team, building strong relationships and ensuring alignment on key initiatives.
You’ll manage service providers and offer strategic input to internal stakeholders on claims matters and provide insurance consultancy for new projects and emerging technologies, identifying insurable risks and developing cost-effective insurance solutions to support innovation and resilience.
Beyond project work, you’ll contribute to the global insurance and reinsurance strategy, applying strategic thinking and data analysis to help shape decisions and represent material exposures across the business.
This role can be based out of our London, Warwick or Castle Donnington office, and we’d hope to see you at least two days per week but you’re welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!
What You’ll Do:
- Leading in the assessment, review, and recommendation of insurance requirements for our major infrastructure projects.
- Implement approved insurance strategies to ensure appropriate protection of National Grid’s assets, insurable liabilities, and new business developments.
- Leading studies to ensure placement of coverage with appropriate limits, deductibles and retentions.
- Set direction by maintaining up to date knowledge of insurance markets.
- Advise businesses on issues related to risk and insurance within commercial contracts.
- Provision of credible data and analysis to support underwriting disclosure to various insurers/reinsurers.
- Drive performance improvements by establishing and sharing best practice, challenging peers and maintaining key relationships across the insurance sector.
What You’ll Have:
- ACII qualified or equivalent with strong construction sector experience
- Insurance and risk management background ideally from within in-house positions, insurance underwriting or broking.
- Experience in leading and placing insurance programs in the UK or global insurance markets.
- Reviewing and negotiating insurance terms and conditions including policy wordings
- Knowledge of usual lines of insurance coverage purchased to support large and complex infrastructure projects.
- Ability to review and advise on insurance provisions within project and finance documents, including liaison with legal and other advisers.
- Strong stakeholder management experience, you can build and develop strong cross-functional business partnerships.
- Negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Self-discipline and strong organisational skills
- A positive attitude, high motivation, and the ability to maintain a culture that is based on teamwork, respect, and integrity.
- Ability to manage time effectively, set priorities and meet deadlines.

What You'll Get:
Competitive base salary, dependent on experience.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance with on target being 15% (with a maximum of 30%) and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
