National Grid is hiring an Assistant Company Secretary, for our Company Secretariat. This role will be located in our Strand, London office with hybrid working.This is a great role for a candidate with plc experience looking to take the next step in their career in a supportive, ambitious and well-regarded team. Job Purpose
To act as an integral member of the Company Secretariat, providing high‑quality company secretarial and governance support to the Board, senior management and key stakeholders. The role ensures compliance with applicable corporate governance standards, company law and LSE and NYSE listing requirements.
The role has primary responsibility for supporting governance and compliance matters for National Grid plc, with a particular focus on share registration, statutory and regulatory obligations, the Annual Report and Annual General Meeting processes, and the administration of employee share schemes.
What you'll do
Plc governance
- Manage day-to-day Plc governance activities, including share registration and shareholder correspondence.
- Support compliance with MAR and related requirements, including the maintenance of insider and confidential lists.
- Maintain accurate share capital records and oversee related transactions.
- Support the end‑to‑end dividend process for shares and ADRs, including scrip dividends.
- Manage the planning and delivery of the Annual General Meeting.
- Support the preparation and publication of the Annual Report.
- Draft and release regulatory announcements to the LSE and NYSE
- Support the Assistant Company Secretary (Board Governance) in the administration of the Company’s share schemes, as required.
- Assist the Head of Plc Governance in supporting the Audit & Risk Committee and Disclosure Committee.
General
- Contribute to ad hoc and departmental projects as required.
- Support continuous improvement through effective knowledge sharing and process enhancement.
- Support delivery of the Plc Governance team’s objectives and priorities.
About you
- CGI qualified with a minimum of three years’ experience in the Company Secretarial function of a listed company.
- Experience of share scheme administration.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
- Proactive, adaptable and resilient, with the ability to respond constructively to changing business requirements.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with experience of working effectively with senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective cross-functional relationships within a listed company environment.
- Highly organised and methodical, with a disciplined approach to work.
- Well-developed IT skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, with an interest in digital tools.
