About the Role
The Instructional Designer plays a key role in developing learning solutions that strengthen workforce capability, support compliance, and advance a strong culture of safety and performance. This role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining effective training curricula and learning experiences for a diverse utility workforce. In partnership with subject matter experts, operations leaders, and compliance teams, the Instructional Designer translates complex technical and regulatory information into clear, practical, and measurable learning solutions.
What You'll Do
· Partner with subject matter experts and cross-functional stakeholders to develop learning strategies, course outlines, and instructional content.
· Design and deliver learning solutions, including instructor-led, eLearning, and multimedia training, that improve employee performance.
· Apply instructional design best practices and learning technologies to create effective, engaging training programs.
· Coordinate projects and approvals to ensure training is accurate, well-designed, and delivered on time.
· Evaluate and improve training materials to ensure effectiveness and compliance with regulatory, safety, environmental, and business requirements.
· Develop assessments to measure learning outcomes and support continuous improvement.
· Manage learning technologies to support efficient operations and effective course delivery.
· Monitor instructional best practices and emerging technologies to strengthen learning programs.
What You'll Need
· Experience in corporate learning and development.
· Knowledge of instructional design and adult learning principles.
· Experience designing blended learning solutions using modern tools and best practices.
· Familiarity with Learning Management Systems, such as SAP SuccessFactors.
· Project management experience.
· Knowledge of utility operations, engineering, and related safety or regulatory requirements is helpful but not required.
Proficiency in Office 365 and standard workplace technology.
· Proficiency in digital authoring tools, including Articulate 360, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Vyond.
· Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
· Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
· Ability to collaborate effectively with subject matter experts and cross-functional stakeholders.
· Ability to translate technical information into clear, engaging learning content.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, accuracy, and consistency.
· Familiarity with accessibility, learner evaluation, and continuous improvement practices.

Annual Salary
Syracuse, NY and vicinity: $75,000-$88,000
Worcester, MA and vicinity: $85,000-$99,000
Queens, NY and vicinity: $91,000-$106,000
Salary commensurate with experience and location.

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
