Job Purpose

 
Lead and promote a safety-first, assurance and performance culture within the Refurbishment Centres. Provide a safe working environment and support the effective delivery of allocated projects through efficient use of refurbishment centre resources. Support the Team Leader with line management of staff, and ensure continued safe, reliable operation of the refurbishment centres in compliance with site requirements.

What you'll do

 

  • Support the Team Leader with line management activities, including performance reviews, sickness management and escalation of conduct or disciplinary matters to maintain a performance-driven team.
  • Ensure all staff are set to work following National Grid processes and procedures, including preparing risk assessments and method statements, monitoring situational awareness risk assessments and delivering toolbox talks.
  • Plan and allocate work to match staff capabilities and training; make sure personnel selected for tasks meet competency requirements.
  • Complete site monitoring protocols (AMBP120) and implement corrective actions as required.
  • Act in defined Safety Rules roles and enact the Project Leader role for delivery of work packages within competence limits.
  • Oversee contractors working at the refurb facilities, ensuring their risk assessments, method statements, toolbox talks and on-site monitoring are in place.
  • Meet refurbishment centre volume targets (NOMs) and maintain quality through QA procedures and required inspections.
  • Carry out fault-finding and diagnostic activities beyond craftsperson level, implement fault rectification and seek technical advice where necessary.
  • Implement and promote best practice to maintain planned unit cost performance, and liaise with substation teams to smooth production schedules and minimise cost.

About you

 

  • Previous experience of primary substation equipment maintenance is desirable (a big bonus)
  • Technical knowledge of the electrical and safety aspects of substation plant, including routine fault finding, plant analysis, operational tests and maintenance checks for specialist ABCB/bay assets
  • Experience delivering performance improvements in refurbishment centres, workshops or small/medium manufacturing units
  • Appreciation of how site activities interact with the wider HV system operation
  • Environmental awareness and emergency response awareness
  • Previous experience supervising staff and supporting line management
  • Qualifications:
    • ONC (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline
    • UK driving licence
