Electrical/Electronic Technician
The Protection & Control (P&C) Technical Coordinator provides technical and delivery coordination between the Refurbishment Centre build phase and the site installation, wiring, and commissioning activities for HV and LV protection schemes. The role ensures that numerical relay builds, wiring schemes, and associated documentation are completed, verified, and delivered on time to support safe and efficient on-site installation and commissioning.
This position bridges design, build, and site execution, supporting delivery assurance and improving the interface between engineering, build, and site teams.
Responsible for manufacturing Low Voltage control boards for switchgear control systems and protection relays for circuit breaker systems, also for the refurbishment and maintenance of National Grid switchgear to support the delivery of refurbishment programs. Participate in all refurbishment activities for the refurbishment centres ensuring equipment is maintained and manufactured to the highest standard. Act as a Person in Charge of the workshop, ensuring the highest of safety and quality standards are maintained.
This role is based in our Leicester Refurbishment Centre. The successful candidate will be expected to visit sites and work away from their base location for up to 12 weeks a year.
What You'll Do
- Refurbish NG switchgear; included but not limited to – 400/275kV isolators, Earths, SF6 circuit breakers.
- Manufacture and wire Low Voltage cct boards.
- Wire up relay units for use with protection and back up circuit breaker systems within the refurbishment centre and on operational sites.
- Ensure refurbishment delivery standards are applied, maintained and continuous improvement methodologies are adopted.
- Participate in all corporate audit reviews and external audits to maintain accreditations and continued operation of all activities.
- Assist in maintaining the Refurbishment centres Quality systems, quality manual in compliance with ISO9001.
- Participate in refurbishment R&D activities including the reverse engineering of materials and components.
- Liaise with wider refurbishment team and Engineering and Asset Management on refurbishment development, SOPs and work specifications.
- Provide cover for during periods of leave or absence for the Refurbishment Centres Production Engineers.
What You'll Have
- A full driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK
- C & G L3 or equivalent in an engineering discipline (preferably electronic or electrical).
- Knowledge relating to the wiring and operation of relays and connector boards together with fault finding on LV equipment.
- Working knowledge of ISO9001 and quality management systems
- Experience of delivering performance improvement in an operations and maintenance related discipline. Experience in P&C wiring, testing, and build of numerical relay schemes (HV/LV).
- Familiar with National Grid or equivalent protection standards.
- Strong coordination, documentation, and communication skills.
- Interest in developing into a P&C Site or Commissioning Engineer role.

A Salary of £43,315- £50,959 dependent on experience.
