National Grid is hiring an Substation Project Engineer- We are open to locations aroung the North East of England.
Job Purpose
How do you ensure that projects are expertly managed and controlled?
We’re looking for a talented Project Manager to join us. You’ll be managing the delivery of projects within our substations and contributing to Net Zero. But you won’t just be supporting our Net Zero goals, the work you do will ensure that our electricity network continues to be one of the safest and most reliable in the world. This role is hybrid with a mix of site, home and office however this is flexible and project dependant.
You’ll project manage high volume multiple asset replacement schemes across different sites covering the North East of England, this also includes responsibility for managing the financial expenditure on projects valued at £100k - £4m and at different stages in their lifecycle. Your portfolio of projects will be covering various construction-based projects such as, Single Asset Interventions (Circuit Breaker, disconnectors, CT’s and VT’s), Transformer Installations, Shunt Reactor Installations, Cable Replacements, Protection and Control Replacements, Cyber Security Installations covering sites across the North East of England. You’ll project manage NG operational teams on self-delivered schemes and suppliers on contractor delivered schemes ensuring site-based constriction activities are safely and efficiently managed in accordance with NG Policies and Procedures. This includes CDM roles and responsibilities. You will be expected to stay away from home from time to time i.e., sometimes but not regularly, although this can vary depending on the location of projects at any one time.
What you'll need
- Minimum HNC in an Electrical or Mechanical Engineering discipline.
- Good knowledge of substation work and HV cable systems, covering electrical, mechanical, civil, and telecoms engineering.
- A hands-on approach to project, stakeholder and contractor management.
- Knowledge of contract management specific to NEC suite of contracts.
- Working knowledge of CDM Regulations.
- Familiar with Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Desirable - Construction/Electrical background.
- Certificate in Management Studies.
- Project Management Qualifications.
