Job Purpose

The Senior Engineering Supervisor provides day to day technical and supervisory support for a team of represented Distribution Designers. The group designs both customer work and asset work, and this role ensures construction designs are accurate, safe, and delivered in alignment with National Grid standards and required timelines. The Senior Engineering Supervisor resolves routine design issues, supports training, participates in department initiatives, and provides support during storm restoration events.

Key Accountabilities

  • Supervise a team of Distribution Designers to support the delivery of accurate and buildable overhead and underground electric distribution designs for customer work and asset work.
  • Review and approve distribution design packages for accuracy, completeness, material correctness, constructability, and adherence to National Grid construction standards.
  • Provide technical guidance to designers regarding routine design issues and questions.
  • Assist with responding to escalations from municipalities, customers, or internal partners.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders including Distribution Design, Operations, Customer, Construction, Planning, and Project Management on design related issues, coordination needs, and project impacts.
  • Support training for designers including onboarding, updates to standards, and updates to National Grid systems.
  • Support the rollout of STREAMS including training, process updates, and workforce readiness tasks.
  • Participate in department initiatives focused on improving design quality, work processes, and system updates.
  • Identify design issues or trends and provide recommendations to improve consistency and reduce errors.
  • Provide off hours support during storm restoration and emergency events, including serving in assigned storm roles and coordinating design support for field operations.
  • Ensure designers follow National Grid processes, design standards, safety requirements, and documentation expectations within National Grid systems.
  • Support the manager with workload monitoring and resource coordination as requested.
  • Maintain compliance with collective bargaining agreements and support a safe and productive work environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology required.
  • Three to six years of experience in electric distribution design, engineering, or operations preferred.
  • Experience providing technical guidance or support to design or engineering staff preferred.
  • Ability to review, provide feedback on, and approve electric distribution design packages.
  • Working knowledge of National Grid construction standards, National Grid systems, and electric distribution work practices.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver license with a safe driving record.

Salary

$134,000 - $157,000 a year
