Health, Safety and Environmental Lead - Substations
Are you ready to lead safety standards across a complex, fast-moving regional operations?
We’re looking for an experienced Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Lead to take ownership of General Safety compliance across our North East region and help create safer, stronger and effectively managed sites. Flexible on location based in the North East with hybrid working across sites and home.
In this key regional role, you'll provide expert leadership, drive statutory compliance and champion a positive safety culture across around 75 sites. Working closely with Site Occupiers, operational teams and key stakeholders, you'll help ensure our sites meet the highest Health, Safety and Environmental standards.
Your initial focus will be strengthening site compliance and delivering a robust audit programme across both established and newer sites, embedding best practice and continuous improvement throughout the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead HSE compliance across the North East region, ensuring sites meet statutory requirements, company policies and industry standards.
- Plan, deliver and monitor audit programmes, supporting sites through ISO audits and driving continuous improvement across the region.
- Promote a positive safety culture by providing expert guidance and support to operational teams and key stakeholders.
- Drive compliance across approximately 75 sites, working with Site Occupiers to maintain statutory documentation, including Emergency Files, Fire Risk Assessments, Environmental Plans and asbestos records.
- Act as the regional interface with the Operational Compliance team, ensuring changes to policies and procedures are effectively communicated and implemented.
- Lead and oversee safety and environmental incident investigations, ensuring timely completion, robust corrective actions and the sharing of lessons learned.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
You'll be an experienced HSE professional with a strong track record of audit compliance in a multi-site operational environment. Proactive, organised and confident influencing stakeholders at all levels, you'll be passionate about continuous improvement and building a strong safety culture.
To be successful in this role, you'll have:
- Proven experience leading HSE compliance in an engineering or operational environment.
- Team Leadership – managing a small team of direct reports.
- Audit Experience - Demonstrable experience planning and delivering audits, identifying trends and implementing improvements.
- Strong knowledge of UK Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and best practice.
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent qualification).
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and engage colleagues at all levels.
- A proactive, disciplined and organised approach, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly across the North East region.
Pay and Benefits
- A starting salary - £66,000 - £75,000 pa + Bonus + company vehicle
- 26 days annual leave plus 8 statutory days, 37 Hours - Monday to Friday.
- Contributory pension scheme – Employee up to 6% - Company up to 12% - total up to 18%.
