Planning Engineer
This role places you at the heart of the UK’s transition to Net Zero, enabling the safe and timely delivery of critical maintenance and major electricity transmission projects. You’ll shape the Year Ahead Tactical Plan for a complex regional network, helping ensure reliable power for communities across the Midlands and East Anglia. Your work will have real, visible impact, supported by collaboration with skilled teams and ongoing professional development, including support towards IET registration.
As a Planning Engineer, you’ll collaborate across the entire business to deliver innovative solutions that shape the future of energy. In this role, you’ll be responsible for planning operations resource and shaping the Year Ahead delivery plan with key stakeholders and to do this, you will combine data analysis, practical thinking and solution optioneering to drive effective decisions and deliver key priorities on our journey to Net Zero. You’ll help ensure the right work is delivered at the right time.
What you’ll be doing
- Analyse complex data to forecast resource needs, identify risks, and prioritise critical works.
- Collaborate with operations, projects, and wider stakeholders to align priorities and agree achievable plans.
- Develop practical solutions to planning constraints and delivery challenges.
- Coordinate plan build activities, manage timelines, and promote transparency and performance excellence.
Requirements:
- ONC / NVQ Level 3 (or higher) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or the relevant experience.
- Experience in a Planning role within a Utilities or Logistics focused business.
- Understanding of Asset Management Principles.
- Confident in leading and chairing stakeholder engagement meetings
- Experienced in using Excel and Power BI to manage various datasets to provide valued business insights.
Location & travel
The team is primarily based at Berkswell Substation (Midlands), with travel across the Central England region including East Anglia.
Pay and Benefits
- Starting salary £47,442 - £60,000 pa + Bonus + Paid overtime.
- 37 Hours per week Monday to Friday.
- 26 Days leave plus 8 statutory days, an excellent contribution pension scheme – max total 18%.
