DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary responsibilities of the position may include, but is not limited to, the following processes within a Geographic Information System (GIS) environment:

  • Assist with the development and maintenance of National Grid’s GIS map that is utilized to access geographical data across downstate New York.
  • Assist with mapping functions performed in the field onto the GIS with an extreme attention to detail.
  • Perform a variety of analytical tasks to maintain the connectivity and structural integrity of the mapped gas facility network.   o      

                          Record and document details of map updates, additions and/or deletions. 

                          Transcribe information as shown on field survey map, completed work order sketch or other orders, prints, sketches, etc., into the GIS.

                          The transcription process includes the updating of facilities and of specific data into the associated tables and fields in the GIS software.

  • Prepare printed map products as required for use by National Grid.

 

 

APPLICANTS WHO POSSESS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICAIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED:

 

  • Must communicate effectively, follow direction, and work independently
  • Experience with ESRI’S Arcmap 10.3 or higher a plus. 
  • Extreme attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
  • Motivation to meet or exceed internal expectations for productivity, performance, and quality.
  • Ability to build strong relationships through communication and collaboration with Field Staff, Engineering and other departments to work efficiently and effectively.
  • Proficiency in basic math, geometry, and mapping concepts.
  • Strong analytical skills.

 

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE & TRAINING:

Maintain files and logs, plot graphs, knowledge of basic grammar, spelling, composition and business writing.  In addition, specialized courses in drafting. In addition, specialized courses in GIS or related fields.

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

Associates Degree in GIS or related Engineering fields, or a GIS certificate.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Two years in this or related work.

 

NOTE:

Candidates for this position will be required to take a screening test.

 

In addition to possessing the qualifications for this vacancy, employees selected will be expected to work overtime in accordance with departmental requirements and to participate in the Company’s Emergency Restoration Program as may be required.

System Mappers Grade 5 who have satisfactory performance can progress to the System Mapper Grade 6 role after 5 years.

Pay Rate: $32.09 an hour
